Hi everyone, While I was off for two weeks during X-mas, I just breastfed my son and never used my pump. Now that I'm back at work, my supply seems to have diminished quite a bit. I'm only able to pump about 4.5 ounces while I'm away from him for about 9.5 hours. I know b/f works on supply and demand, so can it be possible that he really only needs that much now? Before I went on my break I was sending 3 3 ounce bottles a day to daycare, so 9 ounces total.

Anyone else pumping and sending your baby to daycare? How much does your baby eat while you're gone these days? My son was born 2/25/08.

So just for an update, I pumped after every daytime feeding for the two days of the weekend, and all week I've been actually pumping almost twice as much!  I guess it really is supply and demand.  Go figure!

Thanks for the help!  He did drink all 9 ounces before, but my mom (who is also my "daycare Mom") says he wouldn't always be too eager for them.  I like the idea of adding a little whole milk; since he's cleared for dairy I don't see why that would be a problem.



The extra pumping may help, too.  This weekend I've been pumping after every daytime feeding to try to increase my supply.  I only get an ounce, if I'm lucky, but I hope that by emptying as much as possible I might make more.  We'll see!

If he is eating more solids, then he may be drinking less bm.  If you can add an extra pumping session while at work or even at home it might help to increase your supply back to your previous amount.  You could also try taking a supplement like More Milk Plus capsules ... I used these for awhile and saw an increase.  I liked the capsules better than drinking the Mother's Milk Tea ... but that is also an option.

Interesting, I've recently had the same issue. Over Christmas I was with my son most of the time as well and now I'm pumping quite a bit less, only about 4-5 ounces. I've started having my day care add a little whole milk to my breast milk now that I'm apparently making less. I give three bottles with 2 ounces and they add 2 ounces of whole milk. I'm O.K. with that, as I see it as a way to start the slow process of weaning him. He really seems to like it too.



My son was born 2/2/08.
