Does anyone have problems getting their baby to eat rice or oatmeal cereal??

I cannot for the life of me figure out how to get Jesse to eat his oatmeal! I've tried different consistencies, mixing it with things, hiding it under fruit on the spoon. Is it ok that he doesn't eat more than a few tablespoons of cereal if he's eating cheerios? Let me know if you have any insight into this dilemma that makes every morning a battle for me lately!

I just add some cereal to his stage 2 fruits or veggies. The stage 2's by themselves are a little thinner than he likes anyways, so unless it already has oatmeal or rice in it, I add a tbsp or so.

My little guy will not eat "cereal", but he loves fruit.... his breakfast is mostly fruit with some cereal to thicken it. If it's too watery-tasting or too cereal-tasting he doesn't like it. If it's too dry, he'll gag & if it's too wet, he'll blow raspberries with it. If it's all fruity, he'll gobble it up!

My daughter had loved her rice cereal until about two weeks ago...so we took a break for a couple of days and then added the barley cereal. Now she has one in the morning & the other at night...so she isn't getting the same thing day in & day out!

I'd recommend talking to ur ped about it. My Liney has acid reflux, so since she was about a month old, we were told to thicken her formula with cereal. it's 1 tbsp for 2 ounces of formula.

another thing is to maybe try a different brand of cereal. We use the gerber brand in her formula, but for her to eat, we give her the beechnut mixed grain cereal with apples and yogurt. instead of mixing it with formula, we use the gerber baby juice. it's a much more pleasant consistency and texture as well. plus, the gerber juices have lots of different flavors, so it's something different taste wise.

Liney loves her ceral now. if she doesn't get it at least once a day, she throws a fit.

Some YoBaby yogurt comes with rice cereal mixed in. That is a really good idea. My daughter loved it too. I would definately try that. If your store has a seperate organic section it will be there not with the other yogurts. I know Whole foods sells it and Hy-vee.

I mix it with the jar of fruit and warm it up. My daughter did well for a while with just the cereal mixed with breastmilk, but then decided she didn't want it. When I started just dumping the fruit in with it and mixing it up, she loved it. I slowly started adding a little more cereal every time and she didn't even notice! good luck : )

My DDs ped recommended YoBaby yogurt when she wasn't eating her cereal. She loved it. But now she eats it with fruit mixed in. There are other ways to get cereal, like you mentioned, with Cheerios. But also Gerber Puffs & the Wagon Wheels. But if you're truly concerned I bet the ped can recommend some things!
