My son Dalton was born on 2-15-08 weighed in at 5lbs .06 oz and 17 1/2 inches long. Now at almost a year old he only weighs 14lbs 8 oz and is 25 inches tall. The doctors are running all kinds of tests everything keeps comeing back normal. He is very active and now they are sending him to a gastrointerologist and in june we have to go to genetics. But for right now they are telling me that if he doesn't gain any weight they are going to put him in the hospital with a feeding tube.Should I insist that they wait till we do the genetics testing first? I am really starting to get anoid with these doctors that think they know whats best....I am about to go out of my mind. Is anybody else haveing a simular problem like this? Please sombody give me some advice!!!!!!

p.s. my son eats all the time so where the food is going I have no idea!!!

I want to thank you all for all the advice and according to everyone I will take ya'lls advice and find a new dr. Like I said before he is happy and healthy and full of energy and life, and thanks to everyone I have learned a few new things Dalton does tell me when he is sick or hungry so I have nothing to worry about.

My son was born 2/13 and weighed 6 lbs 14 oz, 19.5 in long and has grown about as consistently as your son.  Thorley is in the 10th percentile and just snacks throughout the day.  According to my family practitioner, he's perfectly healthy.  They say that the child will eat the nutrients he needs naturally, but he's still skiny and muscular.  I honestly would agree with going with your gut feeling.  If you feel as though there's nothing wrong, chances are there isn't.  If you do feel as though there's something wrong, then I would advise testing.  I wouldn't put my son through torture like that just because he's smaller than others his age...maybe your family has a history of being petite?  I know mine does.  I would strongly advise searching the opinion of another doctor...I guess I'm lucky because mine is very down to earth and has the natural perception that a baby will tell you what he needs and is sick...which my son has.

My daughter was also born on the 15th and she weighs 16 lbs my dr told me she was under weight but that she looks healthy and is not worried. Go with what your heart tells you. Get a second opion and yes she also loves to eat.

Did you know that a healthy baby is supposed to triple his birthweight by 1 year of age? It sounds like Dalton is right on course to do just that. I think I would have to agree with the others and suggest you get a second opinion from a different doctor. Good luck with everything!

My friend had similar issues with her daughters weight. Go with what your gut telss you as a mother. I would not put your son through all the trauma of being in and out of the hospitals constantly. If he is eating all the time, he is just fine. I'm sure he's also peeing and pooping (naturally what goes in must come out). Give him some time and his body will start showing what he's eating. My friend's daughter is about to turn 3 years old an she's just starting to gain weight and height. Also, I'd change the doctor.

My niece only weighed 14lbs on her first birthday, she is now a happy, healthy, average sized 9 year old. I think you might want to try another doctor.

My little brother was 14 lbs at 14 months and he is a healthy man expecting his own first child now, some kids just have slower starts (they said I needed to watch my daughter with her height, because she was "small" for her age, and I was like "HEY, I am only 5 ft, what do you expect?"  There is such a thing as mother's intuition, go with it.  Get a second opinion somewhere.
