My son will be Three on April 10th. He only weighs 25lbs. He eats very well, we are extremely healthy eaters. He has not gained weight for months on end. He has grown a tiny bit though. I think he is now 33in. tall. I wiegh hin each week and it never improves. We are going to go see a doctor soon if he does not gain more weight by the time he turns three. :(

my son turned 4 feb 13 and my daughter turned 2 feb 14 and when my son was 4 he was chunky but he looked solid and my doc said he was healthy he was a size 4 at 2 yrs old.... but now hes still a size 4 and they are baggy lol.... but my daughter she was always tiny until 4 mnths she was soo chunky but then she started walking at 8 mnths and got so skinny... she weighs 22lbs and her size 24 mnth close i tighten both of the lil built in belts to the last button and still have to a belt on the very last noch or her pants will be falling... 18 mnths fit her baggy but the length is not right.... i think cuz she was potty trained so early and most 24 mnth olds have a diaper to help keep their pants up..idk.. she was potty trained at 19 mnths...but she is soo tiny that ppl mistake her for being younger...

Kristi, If your son is eating well and your doctors aren't worried you shouldn't worry either. Some kids are just small. My son was 2 on Sept. 21st and he weighs 23 1/2 lbs., but he's only 33 inches long so his gastroenterologist is pleased with his weight and said he has fat in his legs. Our worry is he doesn't eat or drink very much which finally led to him get a g-tube in his stomach so we could give him supplemental feedings to help him gain weight. All my kids have been small, but as long as they had a good appetite, kept on their own curve on the growth chart and were otherwise healthy I didn't worry. I feel like after 7 children I've had enough experience now to know when everything is fine and kids are just small genetically as with my first 5 daughters and when they're not eating and their tiny which has been the case with my 2 youngest who were both born premature.

It's not normal, but it's more common than you might think. My daughter didn't reach 20 lbs. until her 2nd birthday. We had to put Duocal in her almond milk, put her on Prevacid and an appetite stimulant called Periactin to get her there though because she mysteriously started losing weight at 18 months due to chronic vomiting and diarrhea after I weaned her from breastfeeding to whole cow's milk.

My baby is two years old and weighs 25pounds, which the doctors told me not really bad, she was ill and lost some weight, but nothing to worry about if they weigh 20+.

It depends on how his growth has been up to this point-how big at birth and so on?
My daughter was 20 pounds at 2 and she is still small 59 pounds at almost 12-she is just going to be small-she is healthy so no one seems to worried about it. She is a picky eater but she eats ok -she is also short so everyone just thinks she is going to be little.

my son is 25 months now and weighs 30 lbs.. he is below average on his height but right at or a little above average for his weight.. some kids are just smaller than others.. just like adults.. and i would say as long as she eats decent and seems healthy i wouldnt worry too much.. kids grow at their own pace.. if she seems to not have much energy or be weak and not eat well (not that most toddlers out there "eat well" lol) i would just talk to the doctor with your concerns..

My son was 2 on Feb 13 and was 31 pounds and 34.5". Not chunky at all...just a solid, dense kid.

[deleted account]

My daughter just turned 2 in February and only weighs 27 pounds. The doctor said she is find and healthy, so I think it just depends on the child and their height. The doctor compares her growth to that chart thingy and she is in the 50th percentile. I'm pretty sure if they were concerned they would have said something.

My daughter just turned 2 and she is up to 27lbs but this is the first time she has been over the 10th% tile for weight. I am always concerened with how little KayDeanna eats and her weight but I was always encouraged to just settle down and they will eat when they are hungry and they will gain weight when their bodies are ready!!

My daughter turned two on Valentine's day and only weighs 19 lbs. She started small, was a micropreemie, but has done some pretty good catching up. She eats like a horse but she is so active she burns almost as many calories as she eats. We are making her milk up to reach 30 calories per ounce and add cheese, peanut butter and other high protein foods to her diet as much as possible.

My Daughter was turned 2 Feb. 7th and she is 25lbs m & she is so tall, like me. I'm sure your doctor will let you know if he is under weight, try not to worry, I'm sure he's perfect maybe he's just thin. There's nothing wrong w/that!

My daughter just turned 2 and weighs 21 pounds. She was born 4 weeks early and when I weaned her from breastfeeding at 18 months she had problems with cows milk. Even after switching to soy she was having chronic diarrhea and occasional vomiting. The doctor has been very concerned because for awhile she was losing weight. She has had lots of bloodwork and skin testing for allergies which was negative and restricted diets without any milk or soy products all to no avail. Tomorrow she sees a pediatric gastroenterologist. She only weighed 19 lbs. 5 oz. on December 28th so I was thrilled when she got up to 21 lbs. in February. Some kids are just little especially if you and your husband were little at children. Sometimes there is a problem that needs to be addressed. If your doctor isn't concerned and he seems to be healthy in every way he's probably just little. I do have a neighbor though whose daughter's body doesn't produce the human growth hormone so she is very tiny. She has to get a synthetic human growth hormone. Ask your doctor what he thinks. My doctor was concerned even though all my kids are tiny so we're looking into things. Good luck!

My daughter turned 2 on Feb. 7th and at her check-up she weighed 23lbs. She is just right where she needs to be at..Sometimes I don't think that she is big enough, but she eats great and acts normal and healthy so then I don't worry so much..

I think it is completely normal as long as your doctor thinks he is healthy....Kids grow at different rates and have different size frames based on their Gene pool....hence different weights. As long as he looks, acts, eats like a healthy 2 year old and your doctor feels he is OK than I wouldn't worry. ;) My 2 year old weighs 36 lbs at his 2 year check up but he has a solid frame and is very tall for his age (97%tile for his height and weight).

Hey Ashley,
I have a two year old as well and she was 27lbs at her 2 year appt. They told me that she is in the 50% of what she should be and that's normal. What did the Pediatrican tell you about his weight? I personally think it's normal :)

we just went for our 2 year check-up on the 22nd (his bday was the 9th) and he was 35" & 28.5 lbs. right in the 50th percentile. at least he's looking good & doc says he's getting enough to eat (even when some days it doesn't feel like it). :)

Oh wow, After seeing these post i'm a little worried my son turned 2 on feb 4th and he is already 34lbs but he is very active and doesn't look what he wears..maybe its because he is tall? I hope so. Should i ask his dr if it is alright for him to wear this much cause he doesn't eat alot like you would think and he don't look chunky by any means!

My daughter is 2 yrs old and 32.5 inches tall and 28 lbs. She's pretty short, only in the 15th percentile for height, but her weight in in the 50th percentile. But "normal" can be almost anything. As long as his doctor says he's healthy and he's eating well I wouldn't worry

Regarding weight gains, my DS will be 2 on the 28th Feb and he has weighed about 32 pounds for about a year. He is shooting up though, he's now 36-37 inches. I think the reason he has not put on the weight though is because he has been getting his molars the whole time and has been getting alot of ear infections and he totally goes off his food when he is sick. Finally he has all his teeth so it should be plain sailing from here :-) I was just thinking, in response to the person who said their child had not put on weight in awhile, that might be why, or else maybe they are just settling into the weight that suits their body but unless they are very light it is probably normal.
