yes the might well. My son had them in when he was 6, and with a little help from speach therepy his speach was normal in no time, but the earlier they get them put in then the quicker the problem will be mended.

hi, my son has had two lots of grommets. the first lot he had just after 12 months as his hearing was severly delayed, unfortunetly for him ( which is rare most of the time) he had many infections and loss of balance since they put them in. the grommets became blocked which is why they done an urgent op to fix an ever since he's been great. the positives is even since the first lot, his speech improved dramatically and was fine until they blocked and thats when his balance went. the infections were a rare complication. my daughter has had 3 lots and has been absolutely wonderful, her speech was delayed alot as they didnt do the op until she was 18months, but 2 days after you will hear such an improvement you will be shocked. i hope this helped. try not to be scared complications with grommets are very rare, and 99% of the time it is the best thing you can do. good luck.

hi there my daughter also the same age is still on the waiting list to get grommits as well as she has had some many ear infection so hopefully this will sort out her speech its not bad but could be better for her age. you should find that once he has grommits in his speech will pick up has he will be able to hear properly has the fluid in his ears will be draining like they should. if this doesnt work he may need hearing aids, but the grommits should work and you should see i great improvement straight away.
