Hello fellow parents. My husband and I are at wits end here with our almost 15 mos. old (born Feb. 1, 2008). He's usually a great sleeper, maybe waking up once or twice a night with a night terror and easily soothed back down. For some reason, the last 3 or 4 nights, he's been waking every hour, almost on the hour screaming, real tears, and very agitated when I or my husband goes in there to try to lay him back down or put his pacifier in his mouth. He is a great eater, walks well now, has a mouth-full of teeth and recently took him to the pediatrician to make sure it wasn't teeth problems or perhaps an ear infection. No fever in the last two weeks or so either. My older boys, 5 and 4 yr. old, are awesome sleepers and always slept well. This is just a new thing with my baby now and I'm very sleep deprived. I can handle a newborn just waking needing to eat and changed, but an almost 15 mos. old screaming bloody murder every hour is exhausting.

My question is, since he is healthy, etc. is there anyone out there that has/is experienced the same thing and what did you do? I'm at a loss and need more uninterrupted sleep as I've got two other kids who need an alert mommy during the day. I feel helpless. Is it just major nightmares? Or pain? or what?

Thanks so much for your insight, I could really use it at this point.

My daughter did the same thing, so I phoned my pede too. He said that anyting no matter how small thet might have changed in her routine at school could cause this too. Also said that this will not be the first and the last time this will happen. Good luck to all, nice to know your not allone hay?

My son has been doing this recently as well, must be in ther air! Ehh. Momma needs sleep. haha Our ped told us to start giving Zayne 1 calms forte. It is a little tiny pill that will disolve once it hits his mouth. I buy mine at a vitamin store in town. I would check with your doc first but it is not habit forming, and works like a dream for us. Just make sure you get the childrens kind, because they do make an adult kind as well.

my son has been doing the same thing he is 14 months perhaps it is a nap problem, becuause he doesn't always have his naps at the same time and i think that throws off his schedule and he can't sleep through the night like he used to. i think also that he's afraid of being alone in his crib, i put a softy blanket toy in his crib and that seems to help him fall asleep. when he wakes up and cries like he's scared i try to put him back to sleep but it's not use, so i feed him a bottle of milk from a sippy cup. thankfully last night he didn't wake up once until 7am and i was surprised i guess it just depends on the baby. good luck

My son was doing something very similar so my doctor, who made sure there was nothing medical going on, referred us to a psychologist who specializes in infant sleep. She determined that since my son wasn't napping well and was only sleeping 9 hours at night that he was having mini night terrors due to chronic sleep deprivation. I worked on his naps first and that helped a bit but ultimately I had to start putting him to bed awake (I used to nurse him to sleep). At first he cried for 1.5 hours and I would go in every 15 minutes to put him back down and check he was ok, but I didn't stay in the room for long. The next night he fell asleep in 15 mins and slept through the night. He did this for about a week and now he goes to sleep peacefully and sleeps through the night.

I hope this helps - good luck. I know how you feel. I used to have to go into work having spent 5 hours a night up with my son when things were at their worst. It's much much better now!
