not eating??

Hi Kasandra,

It's been a month since you posted your query. How is your son doing now with his eating habits? Any tips or experiences would be great to hear.

My daughter is doing the same. I make sure to give her her vitamins (still using the liquid infant vitamins) and her energy levels and growth are fine, so my pedi says not to worry. He said if she was eating as much as we think she "should", she would be getting too much - and she will eat when she needs it.

My son is not only super picky and has food allergies (No milk products, eggs or peanuts). I never know what he is going to eat, and I always have a hard time finding different foods for him. Anyway he gets on food kicks. He wil go 4 or 5 days and eat nothing but poptarts, then he wont touch a pop tart and only wants corndogs for another few days and so on. I just do my best to offer him different foods and I give him a children's vitamin every night (1/2 a flinstone comlete). I hope that helps to make up for what he is lacking nutritionally.

My son does the same thing. When I asked my parents about it, they said my brother went through a peanut butter and jelly or ice cream faze around the same age. As long as he's eating something and drinking, he's fine. It's just that, a faze. He's showing his new found independence by eating and drinking what he wants when he wants it. I buy "Apple and Eve's Fruitables" it's got a full serving of fruit and vegetables in one juice box, and he LOVES it! It's a way to sneak the good stuff in! :)

i can count on my son having green grapes each day, but anything else is a surprise. except he loves breakfast foods...french toast sticks, poptarts and anything else sweet. had his 2 yr check up a few weeks ago and doctor said he was growing fine so not to stress over it. i keep offering him other foods like a previous post said and sometimes he will eat it. i give him v8 fusion juice so i know his at least getting some fruits and veggies that way!

Hi Kasandra, I hope you dont mind but I spoke to a friend about this as her son went through a period of time that he would not eat anything but speggetti hoops and potato smilies, the advice her doctor told her was to ride the picky eating phase through as a child does not as a rule allow its self to starve. Just keep offering food to your son and he will surprise you one day by asking for something different. My friend was dubious about the advice but gave it a try, she also saught a second and third opinion. Her sons "phase" lasted until he was 15 and then out of the blue he asked for a christmas dinner to try, from that moment on her food shopping bill went through the roof and he now eats everything and anything. He is in his 20s 6"9 and not long come back from travelling around the world sampling native foods from the countries he visited.
