My baby is going to be 1 yrs. old in the middle of February. He does not crawl much. He rather move the blanket or reach out with his arm(s) to get his toys but he does like to stand with support. I wonder sometimes if this is normal. What do you all think? Should I be worried?

My daughter just got crawling (2/25)...she pulls up and walks along the furniture but hasn't taken any steps on her own and can't stand on her own for very long.  The doctor said at her 9 month check up that she was slightly behind in the gross motor skills, but compared to my son she is way behind - but he did everything early...she doesn't move unless she wants something.

Nooopppe. My daughter has her own version of crawling. A combination of slithering on her stomach like a snake, and the traditional crawling position but not totally off her belly. She loves to stand up while holding on to something and lovvvvveesss to walk but with mom or dad holding her arms.

Congrats to all the walkers!!

Remember to wait till they've walked for a couple of months before putting them in shoes. Using shoes occasionally outside is ok, but no more than that. Having shoes on too early before their feet have had a chance to settle can cause major problems later on.

My little girl was born feb 10 and took 3 steps on her own last week. It was great to see her so proud of herself. I told my husband now I can take her shoe shopping!

Heck no! lol Both of my boys were fully mobile at 10 months. My daughter is taking her dear sweet time! She cruises the furniture and will stand alone, but when she realizes that she isn't holding onto anything, she sits on her bum! Little stinker! I totally thought she'd be walking by now. Santa brought her a riding toy that converts in to a push walk behind type thingy (lol) and she will walk behind it but that is it. She was born a little over 3 weeks early so I don't know if it has anything to do with it or if she is just going to be one of "those" type of kids......bullheaded like her Mama.....or should I say Daddy! haha

Hi. My little girl has been cruising now for 3 months...she;s definitely able to walk, she just refuses! she;s so quick at crawling I think she;s just being stubborn! she;ll stand alone as well...ahhh, all in good time I'm sure!

My daughter, Cecelia (Feb. 20), is also walking around on the furniture, with a push-walker toy, or when holding my husband's or my hands. It has been almost a month of doing this so far. She hasn't taken any steps on her own, but she loves standing, squating to pick up toys, and dancing to music (cute little bobs up and down). It is so fun to watch her learn these new things, whatever the age!

My son, Jonah, is walking with the help of holding onto to my hand with one hand. Nothing on his own. We do have hardwood floors, so after taken a spill on those, I don't think he wants to walk any time soon. LOL

My son, Wyatt, born Feb. 3 is not walking yet....until recently he has had no real intrest in walking. He has been standing up and holding onto furniture or anything taller than him for months but was perfectly content with crawling. But since Christmas when he got a toy he can push and walk behind he has been all over the place. Still no steps on his own but is standing for mins at a time. I think its only a matter of time now! I hope so anyway...he's a big boy at almost 24 lbs!

My daughter McKenna just walks along the couch and anything she can hold on to...she walks with her little car thing that she ushes but hasn't taken any steps on her own without holding anything..:) But I'm sure its coming sooner than later!! She is 10mons

My daughter is almost 11 months old and was born on February 11, 2008 and she just took her first few steps on her own on December 29, 2008. She had been crawling for a while and pulling herself up for probably about a month and then one day my husband and i sat on the floor and made her stand and she took off!! She can walk to the two of us for right now but sheis getting better every day

My daughter was cruise walking at around 7-8 months and will walk as long as you let her hold your finger and she was 10 months on the 18th

My son (Feb. 20) just started crawling a week ago. He can pull up on furniture, but only get to his knees. If I stand him up at furniture, he will hold on, but not cruising yet. He has low muscle tone (hypotonia) and has been in physical therapy since 6.5 months. He will probably be a late walker, but I'm happy with the progress he has made thus far (considering he didn't really even lift his head up all the way during tummy time when we first started PT!!). My first boy took his first steps at 9 months, but didn't exclusively walk until 13 months.

My son has been cruising since he was about 7 months. He is fully walking on his own at 10 months. He first started taking a few steps without holding on at 9 months.

Melissa, my little girl is also not interested in pulling to stand. She army crawls around and seems to be perfectly happy with that at this stage. If I stand her up by a piece of furniture, she will stand there (holding on) for a few minutes, but loses interest pretty quickly.

Wow! I can't believe so many babies are walking at such a young age. My 10-month-old daughter is very confident and quick at furniture walking and loves to stand and clap by herself, but hasn't yet ventured out to take any steps without the security of something nearby to grab onto. I guess she's not far off walking now though.

Mia is 10 months old and started taking steps at 9 1/2 months. She is now walking more than crawling. She practices all the time.

i have b/g twins, my son crawls around like a madman pulls himself up on things. my daughter does her version of a scoot crawl but wants nothing to do with standing up holding onto something, she turns away and sometimes cries. has this happened to anyone else?

My Gage has been cruising steadily for months now, he started crawling by way of the "army crawl" at 5 months, and was up crawling fast by 6, and as soon as he was doing that, and could make it to furniture started cruising, pretty much by 7 months. I am looking forward to him truly walking, as he is already 24lbs!

For the first couple of months walking, no shoes at all. Their feet need to be able to spread to shape - so socks or bare feet. Podiatrists recommend at least 8 weeks without shoes.

Thomas took off walking by himself 2 days before thanksgiving and he is a Feb 13th baby. He's been standing up and holding onto furniture since he was 5 1/2months. He is now running around the house after the dogs and laughing the whole time. Anyone have any clue what kind of shoes I am supposed to put him in? Those robees dont look like they will last outside...

I just saw my friend today whose baby is 9 mos old (only 10 days younger than our baby) and her baby is not even crawling yet. We were at the play area at the mall and she just rolled around, perfectly content not to crawl or walk! But completely healthy and happy! Just goes to show you, they all develop differently!!!

Lucy was born Feb 7. At this point she has been pulling herself up to furniture to get what she wants...she will walk around holding onto our hands. A few weeks ago she was trying to stand on her own...but hasn't taken any steps. We think she will be walking soon...but she cruises around pretty fast on her hands and knees. :) They are all so very different and unique...it's neat to hear stories.

My little guy, born Feb 26, took his 1st true steps a day before he turned 9 mths and now a week later is mostly walking on his own. He's been cruising on the furniture since he was about 6 1/2 mths. Seems very early to me considering my older 2 were barely crawling at 10 mths and didn't walk til about 15 mths.

Our baby is just over 9 months and is definitely "cruising" - she just started within about the past 2 weeks. She loves it! She'll crawl only as a means to an end but otherwise isn't crazy about crawling- would rather stand!
