When is the right age for your toddler to move from the crib to a toddler bed?

I personally suggest allowing them to stay in their crib for as long as possible. Once you take them out and put them into a bed they don't stay there. If they are not trying to climb out why mess up something that is going good. My son, who is now 5 and sleeps with me, slept in his crib from 2 months till 18 months, when I "thought" he was ready to go to a toddler bed. Well that was the end of his 8pm bed time and all hes bed time routines. He would always get up and walk around or play with his toys and I would have to go lay down with him in order for him to actually lay still and go to sleep. The crib is a good thing, I am going to leave my twin daughters stay in their crib till they start climbing out, and they are 21 months old now and have not even tried to climb out. I enjoy their bed time as my own peace and quite time and I don't want to change what they are used to. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

Hi,

I don't think there is a definite age, i have 2 children and they both moved at different ages. My son couldn't wait to move into his toddler bed as we got him a racing car bed from http://www.toyzworld.co.uk/kids-bedroom/... so he was happy to move when he was just under 2 but my daughter wasn't ready until she was nearly 3.

If they are happy in their cots and not injuring themselves by climbing out then i don't think there is any rush.

I moved my daughter to a toddler bed at eighteen months. She still hadn't tried to climb out of the crib yet. It was pretty bad the first night. She was pounding on her bedroom door. We called her doctor the next day and she said continue the toddler bed.
The next night we used a baby gate. She cried for five minutes, she leaned on the gate for 15 minutes, leaned on her bed for 45 minutes, and finally decided to crawl on the bed and go to sleep. We did do the cry to sleep when she was nine months. So she knew we were not coming in to get her. Good luck!

My daughter climbed out of her crib at 18 months. We changed her crib to a day bed, but she wouldn't stay in there, so she slept on the floor. We just found out the crib was recalled so we put the mattress on the floor and plan to get a twin bed for her soon. If you have the option to buy a twin bed instead of a toddler bed, I would suggest it...save you some money down the road...

Our daughter just got to big for her crib at about 15 months. We didn't have a toddler bed so we moved a twin size mattress on the floor. After she got used to it we put the box spring under it. Now at 22 months she is sleeping in a twin size bed.
