When to start the switch from Formula to Milk

samantha,

here in the UK they say keep with the formula/ breast for drinking until 1, cows milk in food etc from 6 months. I've got three kids and I cold turkey them about their 1st birthday!! I'm sure they'll survive.



I like the half and half oz idea though...i'm sure you'd know if they were allergic by now by giving cheeze, milk on cereal and yogs etc.



another thing it's recommended that they are off bottles around 1yr......I'm not sure, can't change everything at once, go with what you feel.

I am just way to excited!    I have 4 bottles set aside and .I'm in the process of sterlizing his bottles for the last time and retiring them!    I feel like that lady In the Ikea commercial that screams WOOOHOOOOO ;)

(As you can see it doesn't take much to make me happy)

I can't tell you how happy I am that I gave it a try.  I did the half milk and half formula thing... then I started putting in more milk less formula.  Today he's had all milk.  

Considering I only started trying this out a few days ago... I am soooo excited.  Especially since we are going away for the weekend and we (or should I say I) won't have to be a slave to fhe formula! :)

Definitely do it at yours and Dannys own pace...if you remember  let me know how it works out!  I am just way too happy about it.  Especially since I kind of fought it for a little bit.   Everyone kept telling me Joseph was ready.  Guess I don't like "change" much ;).

Danny is 11 months also. He takes the same amount as your cutie. I was told to wait until 1 by the pediatrician and then do the 1/4 milk 3/4 formula for the day and slowly change it over. Unless she told me he likes the milk right away.. I did not try with Danny yet, but am going to in a few weeks..

I have usually at 11 months done 1/2 formula nad 1/2 milk and gradually just switched... also I would put it in a cup during meals and slowly do away with the bottle at the same time.

I know what you mean about formula.  We're in New York and I get his formula at Costco which runs about $32.00.    I don't know... I'm tossing the idea of mixing the formula and milk vs. just whole milk.  Decisions! 

The most important thing is that he's happy, healthy and satisfied with his feedings.

Thanks for the advice!  He took about 5 oz of milk (he usually takes 8 oz)  this morning (his first bottle).  I didn't want to push since he burped up a little of it.  He does seem satisfied though.    I was thinking about making the next two bottles formula and the last one milk.

We started gradually switching him over at 10 months. We took one feeding and put half formula and half whole milk. We countinued doing that until all 4 feeding were half and half. Then we started giving the full 8oz in whole milk. So far everytihng is great and didn't even notice a differnce. I am so glad since here in the east coast formula is anywhere from 12.99-29.99 for powder formula while whole milk is between $5.99-$6.20/4L

Thank you all for the advice!  I started testing  put the milk transition today.  A few ounces this morning and with all his cereal.  So far so good!

Tomorrow I think I may give him milk for his first bottle.   Oh and I'm on my last can of formula.  I'm usualy stocked with Formula guess it happend for a reason! ;)

For my 1st, we did 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula until the formula ran out. For the 2nd child, we put milk in the cereal instead of fomula and she actually just suddenly decided that she didn't want formula anymore. :)

Hi Samantha

I already put milk on Abbey's cereal which I am sure you are doing.  With my first child I did half/ half bottles until the formula ran out.  Not sure where you live but in Oz they like you to keep them on formula for their bottles until they're one...  If my formula runs out before then (I'll only buy one more tin) then she is done!

Just do what works for you.

Samantha, your idea is a great one. My Dr. told me to have then off by their first b-day. My son is 11 months old too and he has been on milk for a few weeks now.
