Wiping their own bottoms?

My son also uses the family toilet, too. He usually goes and does his thing and tries to clean himself up the best he can, but i always have to take him back in and clean him up properly. I think its good for them to wipe themselves, even if it isn't properly, and aslong as we step in and make sure they're cleaned properly afterwards - Way to go, kids!

They should learn to wipe themselves by time they can start pre-k, and be prepared because he will not do it as well as you would like him to. Make sure you show him how to do it a couple of times and then monitor him doing it a few times and hopefully he will be all set, but like I said it takes a while before it's one hundred percent. OOOH and I do like starting with flushable wet wipes that other mom's suggested, otherwise good luck

my 3 year old went poop tonight and usually he calls me to the bathroom to wipe him with a "I pooped", but tonight he says I will wipe my own butt and I thought ok it cant be that bad and when he got done he came to me and says I didnt get any on my hands. SO CUTE lol

Maybe have him start with the front...and then when he understands a little more working his way back? Then you can start getting him into washing his hands after going to the potty. (My daughter has been going to the little potty for more than a year but since she never tried wiping no one but me makes her wash her hands- so now that she's trying it's harder to learn). And another thing you might try is teaching him to wipe his teddy bear clean so he'll get the right motion and areas...and he'll be able to see it.

I agree with the flushable wet wipes. My son is 3 as well he likes to try and do it himself and then most of the time I take a double check and make its clean. Hes getting better at doing it properly when you get to show him what he missed when he wiped.

My 3 year old wipes his own bum. He was interested from the start, so no issue there. With my older kids, they didn't want to, when they were that age. So, I bought those flushable wet wipes and kept them on the back of the toilet. They liked the idea of using those, and because they were wet ones, they got their bums completely clean with no problem.

Thank you Rita! He has no interest in wiping his own bottom right now. Those are great suggestions though.

I remind my almost 3 1/2 year old that she needs to do her best 1st, then Mommy will help. Have him watch you are Dad wiping your bums. You never know
