Christmas Gifts for Day Care

Really? You never thought about it?

Because you pay the going rate for childcare, she doesn't deserve a little thank you gift at Christmas? The woman who loves your little one while you're away? The one who takes care of your most prized possession?

Glad you're not my client.

Some of my most loved gifts have been heartfelt letters written inside a pretty card. Nothing but time spent.

You can't even muster that, because you are paying her "so" much"???

My MIL has been a daycare provider for over 30 years and she's always had parents give gifts for Christmas. She's gotten the most in the 14 years she ran her home daycare though - one parent got her a $50 gift card to P.F. Chang's AND a giant bottle of Scotch (running joke between that parent and my MIL). Of course, not a lot of the parents do that much, but the average gift is some cookies and a card or something along those lines. Plus she usually gets CHristmas cards from past and present families of kids she watched/watches :)

I gave them a coffee mug with a few chocolates in it... made a little card with the kids on it and wrapped in cellophane with a little ribbon attaching the hand made cards.. Not expensive, but something they can use.

I provide in-home daycare and although I don't expect it, it is move to know that my work is appreciated. This year two of my parents gave me a $25.00 gift card to Olive Garden. Now my spouse and I can afford to go on a date night. Yea!

Yes you should always give a gift to daycare, teachers, hair dresser, Nail ladies. even if its home made cookies.

This year I gave my daughters day care teachers some homemade cookies and an ornament (i buy the small ones with 12 in a box).
It's just a token of my appreciation for all they do.

Like Timora, I too worked in a daycare... and yes its very true that the parents pay a lot for tuition and yet, the teachers who do all the work don't get enough in return for all the work they do. It made me personally feel very good to know that when the parents thought enough to show appreciation with a gift or at least a card. We are the mommies away from home day in and day out and any form of appreciation makes us feel like the parents don't take us for granted. Imagine as a parent not getting even a card on mothers day. It would kinda be upsetting.

My dayhome provider is always giving my daughter gifts for easter/valentines/birthday/christmas etc. so I will be giving her a box of chocolates and her two children gifts for christmas as well.

When I worked in a day care I would sometimes get small gifts like lotions, chocolates, small gift cards and cards colored by the students. They definitely did not come from everyone though. Even though you pay a lot in tuition, the teachers are probably only making around $10 an hour, so a show of appreciation is a nice gesture, especially if the teacher is really good with your child.

My kids are in school and Pre-school. I give the teachers a small gift and a hand written card from the kids to thank them for their efforts in caring for my kids during the day.

Ive wrapped up a large box of ferrero rochers and a card from my little one saying thanks for a great year. Wouldnt worry about a gift as such. It is their job and we do pay them but i think its nice to show we appreciate what they do. Dont go overboard. there is a proffessional line!
