Hi!! I am new to the community. My baby boy Evan was born on Feb 2, 2009. He is 9 months old. He has been sitting up for about 2 months, and had been pulling up to a standing position for a month now. The doctor told me at 22 pounds he is to big for his car seat, however he is very tall as well, and I will know exactly how tall when he goes for his check up on Friday, but he is to long for his infant seat now. So, we have taken him out and placed him in the built in car seat in our mini van. He LOVES it!! He really hates the plain green vegetables, baby food peas and green beans. He loves the Garden mix though... Go figure?? He hates carrots as well. He will only eat squash and sweet potatoes. I am at a loss for what to do except to keep offering and do my best to find something that he will eat. He has all of a sudden developed a fear of water, so bath time is a "Scream".. He is my 5th boys, and I am still learning!! Any ideas or tips are welcomed!!!

hey Christy, Maxi was born on Feb 27, but he was always big too, so we switched to convertible car seat at 5.5 months. at his 6 months apointment, they measured him at 29" and 23.5 lbs.

i do make all his food myself and now he eats a simplified version of our meal (anything off daddy's plate is good, doesn't matter if it's chunky or not). I'm a strong believer that food should taste good -- that's why i don't feed my son jarred foods (they're cooked for way too long & have no flavor). I do season my son's food with fresh & dried herbs and also add some garlic, onions, ginger to his potatoes/pasta w/ veggies as i steam them. he loves it. i do taste everything i give him before it goes in his mouth to make sure that i would eat that too. so far, knock on wood, no problems with eating. however, he would not eat jarred foods (tried to give it to him once and he was spitting up & crying -- he was hungry, but just wouldn't eat the puree), nor did he ever want to eat rice cereal from a spoon (not that i blame him, it tastes absolutely gross) -- i add it to his milk (despite all the warning, my son never had a problem with it). all the other foods he eats fine & he is very curious and interested in our food -- every time we're eating something, he wants to try it and for the most part, i give it to him. i definitely encourage the love of food and try to expose him to as much variety as possible. i don't put any salt or pepper in his food, and i'm holding off nuts, cow's milk, raw honey & seafood until he's at least 1 (he did have some fish recently, but it was the kind that was safe for pregnant women). and hopefully, next month i'll start giving him some tangerines. with all the craziness flying around, might as well get some vitamin c in his diet. he had a bit of lemon juice (couple of drops) and didn't have any reactions, so i'm thinking tangerines should be fine since they're sweeter & less acidic.

i don't have any advice for bath time, but maybe you can bathe him with his brother & plenty of toys so that he sees that it's fine. Maxi loves to take a bath (but i still bathe him in small tub, we bought it from Ikea ($7) & it's deeper & doesn't have the infant seater/recliner in it (it basically looks like a miniature version of our tub, when he was little, i had a separate insert for it), so Maxi can just sit in it and play with his toys & do splishy splashy (afterwards i have a big puddle to clean up, but hey, he seems to be having fun). maybe it's a fear of big space & a lot of water. i hope this helps a bit. good luck! let me know if there's anything else i can maybe help you with. it's my first child, but i was very well equipped as i was the oldest of the 5 & actively took care of a sister and brother since they were born (to the point that it was like Hanna you're going out with your boyfriend, take your sister/brother with you or here, keep an eye on your brother while you're doing homework, we're going out or we're going out of town for a few days, make sure your brother & sister make it to school & dont' forget to pack their lunches & do homework with them + read with them), so a few things i have seen work and it definitely made my experience easier as a new mom. however, i definitely encountered a few things that were like "damn, why hasn't anyone told me" so if there's anything that i know or have experienced that i can pass along, please let me know. good luck to you!

Hey Christy! Welcome! My son is also to big for is infant carrier. We had to switch him at 3 months to a convertible car seat (rear facing of course). I feel as though our boys are a lot alike...my son is the same on the veggies too! Yet, he likes bath time and chewing on a wash cloth while I bathe him. I also, put him in there with his 2 year old sister, so maybe that helps. I bet you have a lot of good advice on dealing with boys! Man, 5 boys! That sounds like one fun and crazy household!! :)
