What do the WIC checks provide for children about 8 months old through the different state? Florida just changed their WIC, and now we recieve 8 cans of formula/month, 36 jars of stage 1 or 2 baby food, fruits & vegetables only, and 24 oz of baby cereal of your choice..

Joy,

You can get any brand of fruit or vegetables, but no organic or DHA added.  You can only get meat if you are breastfeeding exclusively.  I like the help with the foods, but the organic offers some many more choices, so I look for sales; last week Publix offered BOGO Free on an Organic brand so I stocked up.

I did the same exact thing. I love BOGO, especially when it's a $1 a jar. Thank you for respinding :)

Here is South Carolina we get 8 cans formula, 32 jars of baby 1st or 2nd fruits or veggies that cannot be mixed with anything (have to be single ingredient fruits or veggies) and 36 oz of cereal that can be oatmeal, rice, mixed grain, or whole wheat. We cannot get anything that is organic or is fortified with DHA or anything else special!! It really stinks because I love ORGANIC and DHA enriched items!!

In Idaho we get 9, 12 ozcans of formula and 15, 4oz bottles of juice and 16 oz of rice cereal. but when i go in this month they r changing juice for food but that doesn't bother me. my son doesn't drink juice he doesn't like it. i hope they don't take any of my formula away i can't afford it we have to buy 4 cans every month and its hard cuz we can't really afford it right now

I will say that untill this last month we were getting quite a bit of items but it was also because i was breastfeeding. before we went back for this check up and for me to get the checks we were getting 5 1/2 gallons milk, 6 things of juice, 36 ounces of cereal, 2 pounds of cheese, 1 pounds dry beans, 2 doz eggs small jar of peanut butter, and then the 7 cans of formula, and 2 boxes of baby cereal

since Indiana has redone the way it works and since Colten is over 6 months they will not help with me even if I am breast feeding, and they cut back on everything else...the systems helps dont get me wrong but at the same timethere seems to be a lot of wholes in it and things dont add up

Wow, we don't get jar foods here. In Missouri, I get 10 cans of formula, 16 oz of infant cereal, and 32 oz (i think) of infant juice. I have my checks through December like that.

That was what it was here, until they decided to change it all up, and screw with people. I'm actually mad about the fact that they took away his juice, and 2 cans of formula. More the formula than anything. I want to know who makes the decisions on who gets what, and how much.

Hmm, that's interesting. I suppose I would rather keep the formula too. It's the important part of their diet, and the expensive part. I used to make my son's food, and plan on getting back on track with that, so I wouldn't even really need the jars.

My son doesn't want the baby food. He either wants real food or his formula. I think it's rather ridiculous that they are going to control what you child eats, but if it's free than I guess no one should complain about it. Yet, here I am complaining. I just don't like the fact that when we got 10 cans, I still ended up having to buy atleast 1 more can a month, and now we will end up having to buy 3 cans a month. And my son isn't overweight. As a matter of fact, according to the last time we went to the doctors he was in the 13th % weight, stating that he was slightly under weight, and over height. (He is almost 3  feet tall at 8 months old -- daddy is 6'6 though and a whole 190, 20 of those pounds were gained within these last couple months)

One would think that they would keep it accross the board what help they would give.. i find it odd on how different it is from state to state

We're in Colorado and the WIC checks supply 60 jars of fruit and veggies, 30 jars of baby meats, Iron fortified cereal and fresh bananas.

I think they're overhauling the program right now too.. The trouble they've been having is that people are abusing the checks and not buying what they're supposed to.

I actually had a checkout clerk thank me the other day for only getting what was listed and ok'd on the checks.
