Hi ladies,

Wondering if any of you can help me with this. I noticed today that my baby has alot of dry gunk coming from the hole in his ear. It is dried on the outside...not sure if it is wax or what. He has been really fussy for the past three days, with today being the very worst. His cry sounds painful and I am curious if this 'gunk' could be a sign of an ear infection? What do you think?

Thanks.

Well that´s good :) Glad all came back well.
My older son started teething at 3,5 months, so it is possible - good luck with that! :)

Hi, Thanks for responding. I ended up taking him to the doctor yesterday afternoon after another very fussy morning. He got a clean bill of health. The doctor was perplexed as I am about why he is screaming so much. We are thinking maybe it is early teething. He has been drooling off and on so maybe.

No, the discharge was not greasy. It was dry and crusty. The doctor said it had to have been ear wax because there is no fluid in his ears that she could see. If it was ear wax then it had been there a while and I just didnt notice, cuz like I said it was dry and crusty. Anyway, today he has been much better, thank goodness. Have a great weekend.

Is it greasy in any way? Cos that is probably ear wax. The fussiness and crying could be attributed to an ear infection or anything really! Shame man babies are so difficult to figure out hey?! Do you have a clinic sister you can go and speak to? Thats probably the best place to start - good luck! :)
