My son really likes the series by Jane Yolen and Mark Tegue "How Do Dinosaurs..." (Say Goodnight, Eat Their Food, Get Well Soon, Say I Love You, Clean Their Rooms); I am really excited about these because they have great pictures and great messages!! When he eats his dinner I tell him to be a "Good Dinosaur" and he smiles, even if he still "..pick(s) at his cereal, throw(s) down his cup, hoping to make someone else pick it up"!!! :) He is also a fan of Eric Carle's books "The Very Hungry Caterpiller" and "The Very Lonely Firefly", however this could just be my influence since I liked them growing up!!! I am trying to find my all-time favorite when I was young, "The Sleepy Little Lion" but it is out of print and I need to get it from a used dealer (anyone ever used Amazon or Borders Marketplace?). So, I would love to hear from other Moms about books your little ones love....we can never have too many can we?!

My daughter's favorite thing in the world is to have me read books to her. She will grab a book off her bookshelf and run up to me holding it up so I can read it to her. She does this about ten times a day... sometimes its the same book so I am starting to memorise a lot of the stories. She has phases where one book would be her favorite but keeps changing. At the moment she loves this book which has the song wheels on the bus. She had me read this to her three times today. If there are toys on the ground or a book she would go for the book without a doubt. haha.

My son also loves the Sandra Boynton books (The Going to Bed Book, Moo Baa Lalala, Barnyard Dance). He also loves, Dear Zoo and other books with flaps (Where's Spot, Where's Baby).
He also really loves "The Monster At the End of This Book" starring Grover, but he's a big Grover fan.

My girls love any book that I read to them. They love big books with bright pictures. One in particular I think they like is called Rocka-Baby-Band. I forget the authors name, but its really cute. The one I like is called I Knew I Loved You by Billy Crystal. My girls and I stay in the book store and I am constantly on Amazon purchasing books. Not to mention our frequent visits to the library. I love reading to them because it give them that cuddle time with me that we all love!

Charlotte likes books she can look at herself, or we can look at with her. She likes her colours book, with things of one colour each page, which she got before she was born. She can point to yellow and say yellow, and I think she knows blue too, but can't verify that one just yet.

We also have a book with just all kinds of thinkgs and their names on each page, like an animals page and a vehicles page etc ans she likes to make the signs for the things she knows and point to things she doesn't know and hear what they are and copy us. That one lives by the potty.

My fave books for her are Alison Jay's Alphabet and Numbers books. She's an artist, and so the books are beautiful. They are card books so are well wearing. They also get better as the child gets older as each page has heaps of things that aren't so obvious that start with the letter, other than the big obvious picture, and the numbers book has one obvious thing with that number of things, but also a heap of other things of that number, so I like them too.

Sandra Boynton is a favorite author in our home .... Night Night Little Pooky and Pajama Time are two favorites (we have most of hers). There's a Monster at the End of this book starring Grover is one my husband reads to Dilana (his favorite from childhood). I also like the Baby Einstine books, many of which can "grow" with the child. We also have a number of touch and feel/lift the flap books. My daughter has an entire five shelf book case FULL of board books. That's what happens when mom is a librarian/teacher. Dilana's second word was BOOK and it's the first thing she asks for in the morning ... since about 10 months old! She even has her library card ... what can I say, librarian mom.

Hand Hand Finger Thumb is hands down Landon's favorite book. He got Belly Button Book which is quickly becoming a favorite. At only 14 months old it's hard to really keep his attention for an entire book and usually I'm only two or three pages into one book and he's already running for another one but with these Hand Hand Finger Thumb he will listen to it over and over and over again (I sometimes think I'm reciting it in my sleep I read it so many times a day). We joined Dolly Parton's Imagination Library and he got The Gingerbread Man a month or two ago and he just started bringing that one out consistantly and will occasionally sit still for the whole thing.

I just checked and the Imagination Library program doesn't have any affiliates in our area either. I am going to check into it more too though, it sounds like a great program! Thanks for the info!

I have used Amazon, they seem to have the best price on used books most of the time and I have never had a problem with them at all. My daughter's favorite books are Peek-a-Boo, which is part of the Baby Faces collection and Veggie Tales 'God Loves You Very Much'.

My son loves "Goodnight, Gorilla" by Peggy Rathman. Short on words so it's easy to read to kids with short attentions. He loves the page where all the animals say goodnight in the dark and then the following page where whites of the zoo keeper's wife's eyes are the only things you can see. He insists on this book every night.

It is a shame, but the Imagination Library doesn't have an affiliate for my area....I know the kids around here could use it. Thanks for the information, I think I will see how I can help get this started here. :)

I love books and my son likes it when we read. He doesn't really have a favorite. He does like the books the make noise. Have you all signed up for Dolly Parton's imaination library? Your child(ren) get a free book a month until they are 5 years old. If you haven't your really should. I'm not sure of the web site, but you could Google it.
