i spoke to my hv about this just yesterdsay my son is 10 months he told me that i should introduce cows milk into the diet from around 8 months like in cereal mash etc and even small amounts to drink and not to worry about allergies as milk allergies are never life thretening and if anything the runs so not a big deal but u should replace formula to cows milk till after a year old but introduce it now

At my son's nine month check-up, I asked my doctor when we could start him on cow's milk and she said around 11 months to give him two ounces a day(undiluted whole milk) for about a week to week and a half, then four ounces a day for a week and so forth until he is drinking just regular milk.
Best advice...ask the pediatrician. So many doctors have so many views. LOL.

I have had a child who was very picky with her formula who is now almost three. Usually at a year is when you are supposed to change it but i changed my little one at 9 months when she was that age and she did great on it.. im actually thinking on doing it with my 9 month old that i have now too !

my doctor told me my son could be put on cows milk at 9 mths as long as he was eating 3 meals a day..which he eats more then that lol..we didnt ask to switch him cause we had heard too that it was 12 mths for whole milk but she came out nad recommended it to us ..she said he was ready....and he will still take formula too but its faster to prepare the cows milk since he likes it cold and formula has to be warm..but there is no real specific age it all goes by their diet since there is a lot of extras in formula that they need if they arent getting a good amount of baby food. should discuss it with ur dr before switching her =)

Be careful about mixing formula with milk. That is a lot of protein for the kidneys to process at once. Talk to your pediatrician. Just before 12 months is fine don't do it too early because there is a huge taste difference between cow's milk and formula and they may not want to go back and your baby does need all the nutrients that they can get from the formula. Remember 12 months is a recommendation waiting a bit longer isn't bad either. Just take it slow, there is no rush and see how your baby does.

I was planning on starting whole milk with my daughter around 12 months like I did with my son, but she is completely different and may even start it earlier. The only reason I say that is because she is developing much quicker than my son did and I have to stop comparing them together because they are SOO different. I want to start her on when I think she's ready, but of course I won't do it too soon. I know it can make babies constipated and she poops enough!

My son is 9 months old and only has three bottles of formula a day (about 14-18 ounces) otherwise he drinks whole milk from a sippy cup and he is perfectly healthy! He is smart and in the 75th percentile for his weight and 95th percentile for his height! His doctor said it was fine as long as he was getting plenty of fluids! Good Luck!

Similac makes a formula for 9 to 12 months old called Go and Grow that starts to introduce milk because it's milk based but no throwing out the formula til a year old. I've been using this formula and my son seems to like it and it's cheaper then the Similac Advanced I had been using.

Thank you to everyone's imput and this wasn't even my post!!! I liked the vartiety of answers and have begun soaking my son's cereal in milk to test it. I am not however in a rush because I do feel that formula has the nutrients that he still needs right now.

Babies still need the nutrients they get from the formula until they turn 1 yr. However, I was told to start 1/4 milk, 3/4 formula at 11months and gradually work up to all milk over that last month to get their tummy's used to it and to make sure that they aren't milk intolerant.

my health nurse told me that 8 months is a good time to start introducing cows milk.. so now you could start with small amounts on cereal to see if allergic then if not.. start 1/4-/34 milk-formula then gradually over the month give more

Hi! Talisha should be around 12 mths to move onto cows milk, but the way I have done it in the past with my three girls is to do it gradually! Othewise the can get really constipated! ( not pleasant!) So @ around 10 1/2 - 11 mths start by fiving bubs part formula and part cows milk until you eventually are giving entirely cows milk! Also around that same time start feeding full cream yoghurt or using all cows milk on cereal for brekki! Their little tummys will get used to it in no time! And your life will be that bit easier because you no longer have to make up formula xx Good Luck! xxx
