Is it ok to only breastfeed your baby (6 months) if she doesn't want to eat food?

Yeah, thats fine. They really only need iron after 6 mos and a little bit of flouride. If you mix a little bit of rice cereal with tap water and get a spoon or two in the baby, then they will have some iron and flouride to meet their needs. (oh! and Vitamin D. just give a little vitamin suppliment!)

My son is 7 months old and its taking me lots of effort to get him to eat. He is not interested in eating from a spoon, but will suck on an apple or eat a little chunk of avocado that he can mash in his mouth.

La Leche League will tell you that your baby can breastfeed until they are 100 years old and always get the nutrition that they need from your milk, so don't worry about it too much.

My understanding is that up until 6 months, solely breastfeeding is perfectly fine. However, after 6 months, as babies start to grow, their bodies require some nutrients and minerals that are above and beyond what breastmilk alone can provide them with - most importantly iron. Most of the literature I have read speaks of the importance of iron at this stage. Now, seeing as your baby is still around the six month mark, I wouldn't worry, however should this continue, I would speak to my pediatrician just to ensure that he/she is getting everything that his/her body needs to develop and grow.

The best of luck!

Absolutely! I've heard of babies at 9 months who were just on breast milk. My doctortold me as long as your baby is gaining weight fine, then there is no worries. There is a book called baby led weaning and it is wonderful! It's about indroducing solids at babies pace...offering them what you eat. When they are ready, they will est it. My daughter will take a bite of my banana, she will eat a piece of bread...etc. I know it's a different approach, but you don't have to worry about purees or anything like that. If you don't like that, then offer purees and if she wants them she will eat them and if she doesn't, she won't. I wouldn't force it. Anyways, hope this helps somewhat.
