I always used the vacuum around my now 27 mos old when he was little and as soon as he started to walk he was terrified of it. He is in day care and they have let him hold the vacuum and actually use it and it has gotten a bit better. He even has his toy vacuum and walks around the house pretending that he is cleaning. I think it is the noise that scares them.

My almost 11 month old is definetly NOT a fan but we are able to get the vacuuming done. If only one of us is home we might put her in her exercauser. She cries a little, more whining really. We have two cockatiels and I'll use the hand vac with my daughter sitting next to me (or nearby). I hope this will help her fears.

my 10 month old loves the vacuum he would sit on it if he could i think. He also comes crawling like mad if he hears the hairdryer on. On the other hand my daughter at that age who is now 4 used to cry and cry at the sound of the hairdryer i could never dry my hair if she was anywhere in sight! she was always very sensitive to loud noises and still is a bit. Makes it hard hey because i always felt like if i vacuum while they are in bed it will wake them.

My son will chase me down and laugh because he loves the vacuum. I can hardly clean my floors when hes around becouse he will try to sit down on or in front of where I'm vacuuming. As soon as I turn it off, hes trying to play with it. It's so funny.

YES!! And he really hates it if I try and hold him....I tried sucking his arm the other day to show him and he freaked out more, LOL!!! We have mostly tile so it only takes me about 5 min. to do the rugs; he will be Ok crying that long, and then gets cuddled by Mommy!!!

My daughter is 10 months old and just became scared of it also. I found that if I hold her for the first part of the vacuuming and then put her on the floor she's fine, she just follows me all around. :) Or if I put her in her swing after our morning routine, she seems to be just fine with it as long as she can see me the whole time. :) Hope this helps.

My daughter just recently developed this fear too, but i can use it if i hold her, she'll even let me suction her arm and she'll smile and think its funny, but only if i'm holding her, otherwise you would think the world is coming to an end. She seems to be like that with all her fears she wont cry as long as she's in someone's arms!!
