My 9 month old son doesn't like to eat anymore, he used to eat 4-7oz of food twice a day and now I am lucky if I get 2 tablespoons of food into him. He does love to feed himself finger foods but he wont let me feed him anything else, he will hit the bowl and spoon out of my hands and cries. The only reason I am worried is because he is already underweight. Any ideas on what to do? What are some good healthy finger foods I could feed him and fill him up?

My daughter has been doing the same thing lately. She has horrible reflux though and we have been battling that since day one. She was born 7 weeks early, so we have only been successfully feeding her pureed foods for about 2 months now. It is completely hit or miss depending upon her mood and whether she is on antibiotics. If she has an ear infection, she will not eat anything. Best of luck, especially with getting your little one to gain some weight. I'm in the same boat and it can be hard on us mom's to try to figure out these things with our kids and their eating issues.

If he can (and you are comfortable with it) the gerber pasta pick ups are wonderful. I cut them in half for my son (also 9 months) and he just goes to it. Also boiled sweet potato pieces are a good idea. A few other things:baked chicken pieces (maybe with a little seasoning), fruit that is cut up (my son loves mango, kiwi, bananas, apples), cooked squash, and anything that is soft or can be cooked to be soft. I make also make him scrambled eggs and he will usually let me feed him those. Another good way to find things is to search google (type: finger foods for baby or something of that nature) and see what works for you and your son. I just starting trying new things every few days and have found that my son likes a variety of foods! Good luck and have fun discovering the things that he enjoys and the funny faces they make when you give them something new!!!

My daughter did the same thing and she finally started eating again. She is also underweight so I was really concerned. The dr. said not to worry about it as long as she was still drinking her formula like they reccomended. It lasted about 3 weeks and she did loose a pound we just kept trying over and over again. Last week she started eating jar food again and she is up to 3 jars and one thing of yogurt a day in addition to about 24-32 oz of formula. I would talk to his dr. and see what is reccommended. Have you had his 9 month checkup?

My daughter is 8 months old and will pretty much eat what we eat.
like if we have spaghetti for dinner i give her tiny cut noodles with a little red sauce.
She also likes chopped bananas, cooked carrot pieces, cooked peas, toast with no crust, cheese, eggs, rice cakes, small pieces of cooked chicken ect ect.

My son loves macaroni and cheese, chicken nuggets(cubed), nutrigrain bars, pretty much anything we eat (as long as it's gummable and not spicy). My son quit taking the pureed food at about 6-7 months and it may take him an hour but he feeds himself from his tray and then sweeps it clean when he's done. Just make sure he's getting the recommended amount of formula and/or breast milk daily which I think is 24 or 28 oz., don't quote me on that, and feed high protein meals.
