People speak to baby and not me

Does anyone else find it annoying when people speak directly to the child, and completely ignore the mother?

People come up to Charlotte all the time and say Hello, aren't you cute, what's your name? She's one. What do they think she's going to do?

I'm standing there, or nearby, looking and smiling, and sometimes they just wander off, sometimes they ask me her name and how old she is. Then it's what can she do.

Can I assume they are speaking to me through her? I'd really like to be addressed directly sometimes.

yes, it's like, I don't know you from a bar of soap, so I'll let you know what I think. I would have said loudly to her in a baby voice "Mummy is letting Daddy know blah blah blah, not that it is even close to your business" with a big cheesy smile. "Was the telephone even invented when you had kids, did you even have kids?"

I hear ya sister! I get the same thing. Sometimes I get a courteous individual who will address me before they address my son. Other times not so much. I actually had an old woman politely "tell me off" to my son! I was texting something important regarding our son to my husband while I was at the mall. It was right outside the restrooms in a lounge area and an elderly woman walked by and said in a baby voice "You should really start paying attention to me mommy and stop doing silly techy stuff because these years when I'm little only last so long". I was like WOW REALLY?! She's lucky she was old ;)

Yes, it is annoying and rude, but they are not causing any harm yet since she is so young. I often find myself "talking" with babies but I always address the mother/father first. This will be a big problem with me though when my son gets older because of "we don't talk with strangers". I don't know how I will respond when that time comes, but I will say something to them along the lines of "oh, we don't talk with strangers".
