we leave friday for our vacation...13 hours one way....our kids are used to road trips tho....we invested in a portable DVD player when we took our oldest on a this trek (at about the same age as her lil brother is now) and played Baby einstein Dvds....I talked to her alot....and we got a couple of new toys to bust out when they start getting board. My daughter is almost 3 and these methods still work...along with adding some snacks

I think it will be MUCH easier than you expect it to....just make sure to bring some familiar things...blankets from her bed or something to make the trip easier

Hi there Jackie. I am sure your little one will be absolutely fine on your journey. We have been on two trips with our little girl already. One for a weeks road trip when she was 9 weeks old. And another for our wedding anniversary we went on another short trip 4 days which consisted of an overnight ferry journey and an hour long flight home. Kids are very resiliant and love adventure and hence I am sure your little treasure will love the experience (that is, if she doesnt sleep through the whole thing) lol Hope this puts your mind at ease a little bit.

I think she's gonna be ok. I'm just a new Mom and everyone knows how that goes... I worry about EVERYTHING! But thanks to everyone who responded. I love to hear from other moms. It's reassuring.

My 22 week old went on her road trip from Indianapolis to Chicago on July 4th weekend. Heavy traffic made for an extra long trip. She slept the entire way. I thought I would have to stop and nurse her and do a diaper change but didn't! The only problem was that her sleep pattern was completely off then because she slept for about 4 hours in the car (and then of course there was an hour time difference).

Honestly don't feel guilty! If this is a trip you usually make a few times a year it's a good way to start getting her used to being in the car for that long. Some people may disagreee... I live in Phoenix and when my son was 3 weeks old we took a trip to San Diego that is a 6 hour drive, our son was comfortable and the only time he made a peep was when it was time to feed him so I would pump in the front seat and put it in a bottle! We made sure to stop a few time so we could change diapers and burp him. He is now 5 months old and we have driven to San Diego 3 times and have taken on a airlplane once. He is a great traveler! Our family loves to take trip's and we may have slowed down a bit because of our little addition but by all means its not stopping us!
Hope your trip goes well!

we often take 3-4 hour trips to visit family..just make sure that you pack a bottle or two and keep diapers and a change of clothes handy...and that there is possible places to stop on the way

How does your little one do in the car now? 3 hours isn't that long and you can probably just see how it goes. If she starts to get upset stop and take a break but if shes doing okay I would just keep driving. We are taking a road trip in a month from MD to NC and I'm a little worried about that since its like a 6 hour drive but we just plan on taking it at her pace and stopping as often as she needs it. Good luck!

Hi Tonya. I live in Newport News. (the good part) I know NN has a bad rap. hahaha. Thanks for the advise. Everyone I've spoken to has said that their little ones usually do well on road trips so I've got my fingers crossed.

I've taken my boy on 3 trips. 2 of them were 5 hours long and the other was 3. I did a stop right in the middle to help on the 3 hour. I made sure I hung up some toys and I talked to him still. He also loves channel 81 on XM if you have it, the beats relax him. He did surprisingly well. Another big thing, I left right at the start of a nap time so he slept for over an hour to start. Where in VA do you live? We live in Arlington.

it should only be about a 3 hour drive and dshes a really happy baby but I guess I'm taking her out of our comfort zone and that make me nervous. Truth be told I'll be more uncomfortable than her...

I wish you luck...that is why we are opting for a flight even though it is an outrageous price. Of course my little one is on the crabby side. I'm already nervous about a 4 hour flight with him. How long is your drive? I would think lots of stops would help and toys with lights and sounds, maybe lullaby music?
