my 16mnth old daughter born 1-2-09 n stil isnt walkin either, she walks with one hand for a gd bit n then stops n starts 2 crawl, she would stand for a few mins on her own n then sit down, she walks around the furniture n with her wee walker pram, everyone keeps sayin shel walk when shes ready, i managed to get her to take two tiny steps but she hasnt done it since

i had the same problem with my son jayden (02-17-09) but when i stoped trying i just noticed he started trying to walk on his own without playing games and now he just wont stop he walks everywhere. my adviceto you? relax and just watch her coz she will be walking in no time.

Hi there...my son Ronith (27 Feb 09) is also not walking yet... he will walk while holding on to furniture or while pushing a chair or a large box or his high chair (!!) in front of him, but he will not walk on his own. But he's talking non stop and is a high-speed crawler... guess his mind is more on picking up more words than walking unassisted... I have decided to not worry and just let him do it in his own time. Hang in there!

I know how you feel, my Andrew (02/10/09) won't walk yet either. He can stand independently and will even take a few steps by himself when we encourage him to but won't take off walking. He'd rather have scrapes on his feet and knees when he crawls outside but still won't walk. We know he can, he just won't. We're trying to be patient because we know he will when he's ready but still frustrating. Hang in there, Zoe will get it when she wants to.

That sounds just like my son about a month ago. He would do the same thing I would hold his hand try and get him to talk and he would lift up both legs and try and sit down. haha. He would walk around furniture and push his car thing around but when i tryed to get him to walk he wouldnt. They have their own little minds dont they. She just wants to walk when she wants and knows you will stop carring her around when she walks. You said she will take a few steps. haha see she can do it just fine she just doesnt want to. My son was like that for 2 months and just barely decided hes going to walk. A few weeks ago he just decided to stand up on his own and starting walking around haha. Now hes walking every where but still sometimes decides its just fasted to crawl. Haha it just happens so fast. Hes been able to walk for months but hasnt wanted to. He wanted to do it on his time. So dont worry just keep trying and one day she will surprise you.

hi there,my little dude isnt walking yet either,he was born 12/2/09.
im not too concerned as in other ways he seems alot more forward then his age,they all develop differently,i think if he wanted to he could but he can crawl so quick i dont think he feels the need to walk yet!!! :0)

Our daughter was born 2-12-09 and just started walking two weeks ago. She still isn't a pro at it, but she is getting there. I was begining to think she would never walk! Our frist daughter started walking at 10 months. By 15 months our first could run, jump and climb stairs unassisted. Just proof they are all different. As Mom's we can't help but worry and compare. She'll be just fine and she will take off before you know it. Then you will wish she was still crawling ;)

lol.....my daughter was kinda like that. She would think we were playing too. She is 15 months and walks now.I would not worry at all. My mom had told me that I didn't start walking until I was about 3. I turned out perfectly normal. That is crazy right....every child walks on there own time so don't stress out about it. I am sure you have enough to worry about as is. I am sure your child will not take as long as myself though. Keep in mind that i had older brothers that carried me everywhere.

Hi there. My daughter has just started walking by herself at 15 months. It took her ages as well...4 months from taking her first steps to walking by herself.

For my daughter, I think crawling was just faster to get to where she wanted to go, and as a result, she always preferred crawling to walking. We tried to encourage walking by making it into a game (she would walk between me and whoever was around and we slowly extended the distances). We also found she liked walking when we held her hand as she could walk faster...so we did that as much as possible (and as soon as a visitor came, they were delegated to walking duty!). As a result, although she hasn't been walking independently for long, she's walking really fast.

So I'd say don't worry too much...your daughter is obviously a great crawler! But what we found helped with our daughter was to encourage walking as much as possible by making it into a game and helping her until her balance was good enough for her to walk faster than she could crawl.

Hope gives you some ideas.

My daughter Calleigh isn't walking quite yet either. (2-4-09) She was a very very large baby at birth (11 lb 7.2 oz, 20.5 inches) and is still big-- she was 31 inches or so at her 15 mon checkup and 26 lbs. she's very long waisted and is therefore top heavy. she cruises along furniture just fine and likes to walk holding our hands, but refuses to take a step on her own. My oldest child is almost 9 and walked at 10 months, so who knows. and my middle child walked at 13 months. i'm going today to get an evaluation at our early intervention just to make sure she's ok. she talks up a storm, just no walking! typical girl! good luck!

Hi there! My little girl Matilda Paige born (25/02/09) is not walking yet either. I do the same to help her to walk. When I take her to her nanny's everyday I hold her hands and she walks up the stairs and across the patio to knock on the door, and she knows we do it everyday. Mind you she would rather crawl everywhere!!! But don't rush her, she'll do it in her own time!!! Enjoy it while it last because then you'll be chasing her....so I've heard!!!! hehe

Don't worry! My little boy Jacob (25/02/09) isn't walking either. They will do it in there own time. My son was born 11 weeks premature and didn't even start crawling until February 2010. Just hang in there. Every babies different.

my little one has been walking with furniture since 7 months she goes like a trooper when we hold her hand and she will go between us.. but not on her own very discouraging,, my lil one is a day younger than urs!! she was born the 24th of february and she wont go and walk either

Mine was 15 months on May 25th and she is doing the same thing. Although last night she let go and walked 7 steps to her cousin. I have tried all day today and she won't budge but can go 50 miles an hour on those knees. Pediatrician said not to worry until she is 18 months old.

My Munchkin (2-3-09) is doing his own thing as well. I mean, he walks all over the place with his little push cart. He cruises along the wall and all that but he just doesn't seem to wanna let go. I know he'll get there but the hardest part is everyone asking if he's walking and other Mom's who's kids are walking raising an eyebrow when he crawls. He's FINALLY taking a couple steps here and couple steps there so slowly but surely I'm hoping he'll start getting more gutsy and taking more chances. Lot's a bumps and bruises along the way ;) Oh, I talked to my doctor at his 15month check up and he told me if he's not walking within 6weeks he gave me a number to call for early development and I guess they come to your house and whatnot soooo we'll see!

My daughter (2-25-09) doesn't walk yet either. I have 4 children and none of them were walking until 14 or 15 months. But I know she will start when she is ready. Right now I am just enjoying this "baby" stage! I have found that the bigger the baby the later they walk.

dont worry its normal kids start to walk at different ages. up to 18 month it is totally okay if she starts to walk so she has a lil time left

son born 9th Feb has just started to walk, but theres a girl at one of our playgroups who is about 2 months older who isn't, but she's talking and Miles isn't.



The staff in the creche were betting that Miles would be walking by Christmas, but it took until 4th May (I'll never forget that date - his dad's birthday!)



They all develop at different rate, and in some areas faster than others - my son didn't start crawling until after he started to pull himself up in September, so i'm betting that children who are not yet walking are further advanced in other areas.

My little girl did the same, crawling at 6 months, she didnt walk till she was 17 months! Shes now almost 4...
!5th month old boy started just a month ago, and my first, also a boy, now 9 was walking at 13 and a half months. So there all different, she'll walk when she wants to.

I am in the same situation. My son is a day older than your daughter. He has recently started actually walking holding one of our fingers and occasionally lettigng go and tyring! We were frustrated but just had to wait until he was ready. He still would rather crawl but we are moving in the right direction! He can crawl so fast why would he want to slow down and walk!

My son (2/21/09) doesn't either. He army crawls and that's it. He can't get into a sitting position by himself, but he can crawl over things and get into a partial standing position. I figure the taking steps part will come down the road, but it sure is a frustrating wait. Our babius will do their thing when they're ready. Hugs to ya.

Don't worry, she will be walking soon. Sometimes we think of these developmental process as they take steps and steps to happen. We forget that when they learn is from one moment to the other. One Day she will give 2-3 steps on her own and that's all she needs. My 3 yo started walking at about 18-19 months. He was just fine.

So tried the bubbles and it somewhat worked, she was so excited and she took a few steps and then cried after she figured out what me and daddy where trying to do and she wouldnt stand up anymore! LOL my silly baby...so I guess if we keep tryin the bubbles and not force the walk issue she will get it! soon I hope Im ready to lose some more weight, by chasing her everywhere.. Thanks for the help ladies you are all awesome mommies!

hahhahaha, unfortunately, kids aren't aware of our schedules. She'll walk in her own sweet time, stop pushing her to be someone she isn't. She sees people walking all over the place, and kids learn by watching and modelling, so it'll happen eventually.

Pretty soon those chubby little knees will get boney and it'll hurt to crawl, then she'll find other ways to get about.

MY son is only just starting to walk. He was born, 2/11/2009, and he really only does it hesitantly. Only iof he wants applause! Other than that he's a stubborn little booger who wouldn't walk no matter what we tried. Holding food just far enough away that he would have to take a few steps, holding the camera just a few steps away! he loves it but he's not allowed it. Just give it time. Encourage her when she stands and just be patient she will walk when she's ready!

My son didnt walk yet although he walks when i hold his hand.he was born on (2/24/2009) every time i try to let his hand he just set on the floor.i like the bubbles idea!! i'll try it,,hope it will work :)

Hi Barbara,

My daughter Abby was born on 2/25/09. Our girls are just two days apart. Anyway I just wanted to tell you not to worry, I know it's not easy. :-) My son was 14 months old and my Abby was 13 months old when she started walking. Every child is different. Your daughter will walk when she's ready. I was recently show on how to help you child walk on "The Doctors." They said that blowing bubbles are a great way to get your child motivated to walk. Stand your daughter up and blow the bubbles. Hopefully she will tryt to reach for them and take a few steps, and so on.

One of my twin girls use to do the exact same thing whereas my other girl took right off into walking. (One started walking at 12mths and the other at 13 mths) My daughter did the same things and just seemed to prefer crawling. I think for her it felt safer. She took a month longer than her sister but eventually she got tired of her sister moving so much faster than her and leaving her behind. She even started holding on to her sister as to say "take me with you!" lol She finally got over her fear and moved right along. My friends child is 18 months and her daughter is doing the same thing. Be patient with her....when you least expect it...she'll take off!!!



One day I was out with my girls a couple of weeks before their 1st birthday and there was a lady with her daughter who was walking at the time. Her daughter was the same age as my girls and she said her daughter had been walking since she was 10mths old!!! I was thinking the same thing you were thinking. "When are my girls going to walk??" :-)

My daughter too doesnt walk yet (2-10-09), i know that they all do their thing when they are ready, but i can understand how you feel. I guess we just have to hang in there, if the doctor says there is nothing wrong, then we just have to leave it up to our little ones! Im not extremely worried, i think its just the pressure from other people that think she should be walking by now that makes me wish she was walking

your little girl will walk when shes ready. can she pull herself up to a standing position? can she walk using your furniture to hold her up? can she stand freely? my son refused to walk as well (born 2-16-09) and would do the same thing your daughter did. we would just keep trying to hold his hand and take short walks to the kitchen so he can get his sippy cups and then put the old one in the sink (he loved that). one day he decided to walk his first 2 unassisted steps by walking the 2 foot gap between our couch and coffee table. we were so proud even tho he fell on his butt afterwards. day by day, he would take an extra step and now he toddles around like a champ. he will still crawl most times but when he wants to walk, he will. just keep doing what you are doing and give her time. they are already growing too quick, savor these last moments! :)
