I have tried several sippy cups and my son will only chew on them. He only wants his bottle. Are there any good training sippy cups out there?

Have you tried the ones with a soft straw? My son wanted nothing to do with sippy cups (he didn't get the hang of having to tilt them up either) so I tried the no-spill munchkin one with a straw and he took right to it. We still give him a bottle at night, but now he sips all day by himself (and in the car, yeah!)

I've trained 4 kids off of a bottle by offering only water in the bottle and all other drinks in a sippy cup. So I'd give him a bottle of water and a cup of milk at naptime and sure enough they soon stopped drinking from the bottle.

I've had good success with the Nubby sippy cup that has a silicon top/spout. It's very similar in texture to a bottle nipple.

I am not sure if you are still having this problem but I had it too. My son would just chew and teeth on all cups. He didn't know what it was or what it did. He thought that it was a toy. It was because all the cups are non-spill. I bought one that did spill (the plastic "Take and Toss" ones). It spilled a little water in his mouth and then he started sucking because he knew what it was for. a little while on those cup and he can use any. We use the ones with straws because he hasn't quite figured out to tip the cup enough. Hope this helps!

My little boy would also do nothing but chew on all the sippy cups I bought. After buying so many different brands (including those with straws) I was recommended Pigeon's Mag Mag system. First a soft spout, then a straw - and they are both very soft which means bub is not tempted to chew on them, which was our trouble.

I agree with katie. Just keep giving him them. When I got to that point I would only put water in the bottle and juice and water or whatever they like in the sippy cup and my boys got use to the sippy cup real fast.

My son doesn't really want to drink milk period...bottle or cup. I've cut him down to 1 bottle a day but feel like he is not getting the fat and calcium he needs from the milk. when we first started milk in the cup we went through several different kinds. His Dr. said to just keep trying...it takes time to realize milk doesn't just come in a bottle.

My son was the same way, and after trying a bunch of different kinds, I have found the only cup he will use is the Nuk sippy cup. Hope this helps for you and your little man. =)

I had a hard time getting my daughter, Emma, to take a sippy cup. I had to start with sippy cups with no valves and it helped her to see me "drink" from it, so she saw how. I also let her try drinking from a real straw and she got that right away so she used a straw sippy cup before a sippy cup. The first sippy cup that she latched on to was a Nuk it was for transitioning from breast to bottle or bottle to sippy and had a really soft nipple. I waited until she was really hungry to let her try the Nuk and I tried to get her to drink when she was playing or in her car seat, where she couldn't squirm away. Handles on the cups helped. Good luck.

We had that problem and got our son a sippy bottle, it felt like a bottle but had the sippy part instead of teat, it took awhile but he got used to it. Then we moved to a sippy with handles and he chewed it so much it got ruined within 2 weeks so now he has a sippy with a hard spout and wont drink from anything else!

Perseverance. My daughter wouldnt touch a bottle ever (she was breastfed) I tried several cups but she eventually took to the basic Tommee Tippee that the health visitor recommends and she has happily used it from around 8 months for her water.

I am experiencing the same dilemma. My son is 13 mths old and he won't touch a sippy cup. I really want to get him off the bottle. No matter how hard we try, he won't drink out of one. I wouldn't say it's frustrating, it just boggles my mind how to get him to drink out of one.

My daughter refused to use her sippy cup and after trying everyday to get her to drink from it, she eventually started using it now she is very comfortable with it. Buy the one that has handles as this will give him independence.

I am having the same problem, my son is 13 months and he refuses to drink from a sippy cup. I really want to get him away from the bottle, so I've been trying regular cups which he loves, I dont know if its because he wants to be a big boy! lol Also he is starting too like the straws, superstore carry's it its like a sippy cup but it has a straw instead. So try a few things you should find something eventually, and just keep trying one day they may surprise you
Oh and what I do is dinner time etc, he drinks from a regular cup and then when he is playing etc, he drinks from his bottle/ straw sippy.

The doctor recommended the NUK cups. It is not sucking like the bottle because the nipple does not go up into the top palate of the mouth causing the gums to grow abnormally. The nipple is straight. However, it is important to note that it is a transitional cup and is helpful in getting the baby to transition from bottle to normal cup.

We are in the transition period with my son right now. He would not take his milk from a sippy cup only a bottle. Water or juice he would take, but not milk. We started by just giving him water in his bottle and milk in the cup. But I'm a softy and gave in to the milk in the bottle. But this weekend we made the leap. Only letting him use his sippy cup. It was hard to see his tears, but my husband put him in his crib with the cup and he calmed down and eventually went to sleep as it was nap time. He used his cup the rest of the day. Today is day number two. I think the trick might be to not react or cuddle and to start when they are not tired. Good luck.

the whole point of a juice cup is so that they dont have to suck from it as sucking on abottle for to long will start to shape there teeth so its best to try and find a cup that doesnt require sucking like a bottle it will take a while but try encouraging your baby to drink form a normal juice cup not a spill free one as then eventually they will learn how to sip there drinks

Try the NUK sippy cups. My daughter was exclusively breastfed and those are the only ones I can get her to drink out of. They have latex nipples that require the baby to suck to get anything out. I can only find that brand at Walmart. They are great because the lids are interchangeable with bottles so if your son needs to drink more than a 5 oz cup you can just put the lid on the NUK bottle.

Yes, try the straw sippys...I was amazed that they can use them so young, but my son will even use a real straw. I also took the valves out of the regular sippy cups because I realized my son wasn't having an easy time getting anything out...they are messy because they are no longer spill-free and he may drink too much at first and cough a bit, but my son was a pro with it after only a few times...btw: I limit these with my son to table use as he likes to walk around and shake his cup....VERY MESSY!!!!!

My Daughter was the same way, she finally figured out how to drink from straws so she uses straw cups now and we have greater success with them. You just have to keep on try he will eventually get it don't give up.

I would say just keep trying different cups and just keep giving them to him. Some kids just take longer to get used to it than others. I would buy the ones with handles to start with because when my son first started using them he really like being able to hold his own cup. Good luck!
