Hanna~ Just so you are aware, not all women do get more than one ultrasound. I was told by my OB that insurance companies are changing their "rules" and are paying for ONE ultrasound at around 20 weeks, to check size, development and gender if parents want to know. Any other ultrasounds need to be deemed medically necessary in order to be covered. I was lucky and did get another ultrasound at 32 weeks, but that was only because at my first ultrasound, I had a low lying placenta. Some doctors will let you get another, but you might have to pay out of pocket for it, based on your insurance company and their regulations.

I wish everyone the best next few weeks!! I can't believe Sunday is the 1st!! Yeah!!

thank you very much for all of your notes 2 me exspecially the 1 bout  the way your carrying the baby has nothing to do with what sex the baby is its just the way YOUR body carrys it !

i feel a bit more reassured now, i am due in just less then 5 weeks so i dont have that long 2 wait x

Janette, you are supposed to have one and insurance does cover it -- it's called limited physical profile or something like that (no pictures but they do need to do one) what they do is make sure that all the internal organs are properly developed, the size of the baby (approx. weight), the condition of the placenta -- which can potentially be a a reason to change your due date. so you can ask the doctor to double-check that it's still indeed the same sex as you were predicted earlier. i would ask ur doctor for it if he doesn't already do it -- for your peace of mind and his -- it's something that is medically necessary rather than a wimp. it is quite common for placenta to not work as effectively towards the middle of 3rd trimester & even stop working/detach all together last 2-3 weeks (in which case the baby is in danger before you go into labor). so they need to determine how closely to monitor you the last 4-6 weeks & have a good idea of whether or not the baby might come earlier or you have to change your diet because the baby is too big/too small.

ya know all those other was of telling the sex (way your carrying, the penny trick, and many many others) are all old wives tales and are NOT true. There is no proven actually connection to showing the sex and how your carrying.... or the silly penny trick... or the ring trick... or anything like that. Thats why they are called "old wives tales"... cuz they arn't true. So dont listen your friends and family... the only factor in how your carrying... is how your body carry's the baby. Theres no connection to the sex.

And yes... the u/s COULD be wrong... but... its not likely... the probability that they get the sex wrong is rather low.

And Hanna... i wish i got another u/s.... i only got one... my doctor said i wont get another in my pregnancy... so not all moms get to have a second one done at 8 months.

scans can be wrong. not as often as before, but they definitely can -- it depends on how much the baby is cooperating, sometimes at 20 weeks girls pelvic area is swollen & it shows as a boy. you will get another scan around 7.5-8 months. if you are desperate to know before then, get another sonogram. or alternatively either wait to buy stuff until u get that last sonogram (if you're doing registry on babies r us, it's really easy to change online or even in store) or just buy bigger items in neutral color.

i had the same confusion as you & i found stroller+car seat that i liked on sale 3 months ago, so i bought them in red -- i was told i'm having a boy, but just to be on the safe side, i figured those two in gender-neutral color. bedding & crib i waited to buy until a week ago, i'm due in 4 weeks, so sonogram confirmed that it's a boy & i bought what i originally wanted (although again it's gender-neutral). as far as clothes, well i would wait anyway simply because you want to see how big your baby is, u might not need the NB or 0-3month so i would wait. besides, when they're small, you really need a lot of onsies & one-piece overalls (for convenience the first few months) so again, you can buy them in more or less neutral colors.

one piece of advice (hear it in my birthing class) -- try to buy baby items with bright colors & big patterns -- first few months baby see in black & white, upside down & they can't distinguish pastel colors.
