My son who just turned a year old will only drink water or juice from his sippy cup, he won't drink formula (he has had a series of ear infections so his doctor told to hold off on the milk) from it, only from his bottle. Any suggestions on how to get him off the bottle?

i just tried giving my 12 month old formula in a sippy cup and she did not take it well. ( throwing it at first, then spitting out everything she sipped all over her clothes until the entire cup was empty, then proceeding to cause trouble afterwards, doing everything she knows is a "no no".) as soon as i gave her a real baba a lil while later, she was fine. so i see this is going to take a little while. (she does drink water from the sippy cup often) babies grow attachments to their bottles, so it is a big transition for them, what i'm gonna do is just keep being consistent, every day keep using the cups (too bad it wastes the expensive formula) til she gets used to the fact that that's the way it's gonna be from now on.

My son just turned a year and he still will take any fluid from a sippy (ive tried several differnt ones). He just plays with it. He's never really liked the bottle either, its always been a challange to get enough fluids in him. If I give the bottle to feed himself he just plays with that too, i still have to hold all his bottles, im not sure what to do. Im afraid if I just offer the sippy he will get dehydrated.

you should not give a baby a bottle at night with milk or formula. the natural sugers will decay the teeth. Ass for the formula in bottle only, just get rid of the bottles, he'll learn

He only has one tooth at the moment so He should be okay for now. Thanks fo rthe advise. Can I understand if a child has teeth a bottle might not be a good idea.

I give my little one his milk during the day in a sippy cup but at night I still give him a bottle, I can not see anything wrong with a bit of comfort at night. But when should I stop the bottle at night?

I have 1yr old twins and I am having the same issue. I tried weening to milk in bottles 1st and they didnt take very well to that so I am just going to bite the bullet and switch to milk in sippy cups and chuck the bottles all together. It might be a rough few days but at least the switch will be done. Good luck everyone!

I agree with you ladies... My son was the same way but he learned very fast that the sippy was how it is going to be. From the time he wakes up till the time he goes to bed he has one bottle only and that is filled with water for bed time. The only reason that i give it to him is that it one doesnt have the milk in it and two he is only using it to chew his new teeth in right now. It is best to give him water since i brush his teeth at night and i know he is only going to chew on it for about 2 minutes. It takes a few weeks but he will get the process down of no more bottle only sippy cups are for big boys... that is what i tell my son

I agree with Rachel. They learn very quickly at this age. Just chuck the bottle and only ever offer the sippy. End of story. As usual, there'll be tears or whatever but he'll learn that you're in charge and this is how it is going to be.

may sound mean - but just give him the sippy and get rid of the bottles. He'll drink it, maybe not the first or second time, but definitely soon. Or just keep him on the bottle for the formula and wait for the milk to switch completely to the sippy. good luck!
