My daughter is in her crib now and I keep wondering when I should move her into a toddler bed? Any suggestions on when the time is right?

i was wondering the same same thing. ive been having dreams that my son has climbed out and fell from his crib. scared me to death even tho it has not happened. im going to try to keep him in his crib as long as i can (even tho his crib was one that was "recalled" and needed an extra kit to make safe again).im hoping the transition will go smoothly when the time comes and that i dont get nightmares about his new bed!

With my first daughter we tried switching her around 1 1/2 but she just kept getting out of her bed all the time. She liked it for the first few nights but then knew that she could get out. So we put her back in the crib and her sleeping was MUCH better. We kept her in there as long as we could and I think ended up switching her before she turned two. I am going to keep my little one in a crib as long as I can. My daughter would definitely fall on the floor. She is a wild sleeper!

My son, at about 15 months started climbing out of his bed. Nothing we did could keep him in it. We put him in a toddler bed and he loves it. We keep a bookshelf of his books in his room and a toybox and he can play when he wakes up in the morning. He is currently 2 years and 5 months and is still doing fine. We are looking at moving our 1 year 3 month old over soon for the same reasons!! The boys play together in the mornings and dad and I get an extra half hour of sleep!!

Wait as long as you can! Our daughter got out of her crib once and we thought about switching her to keep her safe. We haven't made the switch yet and she hasn't tried getting out yet so we are still deciding what to do.

We will probably be making the switch to a "big-boy bed" in the next few months. We are torn as to whether buy another convertible crib and convert our sons crib or just buy him an adjustable bed from Ikea (goes from toddler to twin). He can not climb over, but his climbing skills are literally on the rise!!!

My daughter's already in a toddler bed. My husband and I thought we were going to have to move suddenly so we took apart the crib and had her sleep on her mattress on the floor. We didn't have to move but my daughter loved not being in a crib so we left the mattress the way it was. Once she learned how to climb onto small ledges and how to get off safely, we moved her into the toddler bed. She's done great with both ways and loves not being restricted. I also get better sleep at night since instead of crying in the crib she can get up and play.

I moved my son to a toddler bed when he turned a year old because he absolutely hated his crib..he did so much better in a toddler bed..just baby proof the room and put a gate at the door when ever you're ready.. I also just moved my 14 month old into a toddler bed because we have baby #3 coming at anytime now and I didnt want to spend the money on another crib...she's done great as well ..she sleeps throught the whole night ..i put a blanket or pillow on the floor on the side of the bed just in case she rolls off..ive moved them a little earlier than most people but it worked for our family

I would say once she climbs out of her crib, hits 36 inches, or is potty training. Whichever comes first. Also, a toddler bed is not a necessity. Many children go straight to regular sized bed.
