Lexi won't take formula. A while back she got her first cold and went on a feeding strike for a few days, but resumed again, only to stop again about a week or two later when she bit me and got a big fright when I yelped with pain! From then she refused every offer. So, I've been giving her water in a Tommy Tippee (Nuby) sipper with a silicone teat that has to be 'bitten' to release the water - However, now every time I offer her a breast, she bites it the same way, looking up at me smiling! But - Ouch!

I've been expressing, but only getting 50-60 mls each time... is it really worth the effort for such a small amount? She won't drink the milk by itself either, so I have been using it to make cereal.

Any ideas?

Sarah, don't worry!!! all nursing problems can be fixed.
First since she has not been nursing at her regular rate, your milk suply has ajusted to the lowered demande.
Try to pump while she is nursing, expression will come faster if the other breast is stimulated, will also help increase your milk supply.
2. Drink lots!!
3. Hit your local natural health food store for some Fenugreek, this will up your milk supply.
4. Stop giving her that nuby bottle and opt for a sippy cup when offering water or milk, she needs to learn the difference.
She is probably bitting you because the milk is not comming fast enough because your letdown is too slow since your milk supply is also low.
She may benefit from having cereals and you can introduce the formula at the same time by preparing it with formula. Baby mums mums will take care of her urge to nibble and will also teach her the difference between food and breast
You also need to find a nursing coach, they will help you solve your nursing issues.
Hope this helps.

You're not a failure. My daughter did the same thing. I nursed my other two till they were 3 so I wanted to nurse again for as long as possible. What I did was stop offering baby food and offered the breast more. In less than 2 days she was nursing wonderfully again. I started to re-intoduce food but in smaller portions. Hope that helps.
