Hi, Do you have a "walker" you baby can push around? I got my daughter a baby stroller and put a doll in there and she pushed it around and before long she started walking.

They just need to build up their confidence a bit. Finally my son started walking last week, and he is almost 16.5 months old. It will happen, be patient.

If your pediatrician is unconcerned and there are no extenuating circumstances, then it sounds like your daughter is just spending time learning other things right now. She is doing what she is supposed to be doing. I have three children under the age of five and the oldest two didn't walk until they were 19 and 18 months respectively. My youngest (16 months) has been walking for a few weeks and has segued straight to running. So...

Whenever I get nervous about whether my children are advancing when they're supposed to, I always ask myself if I've ever heard of a healthy child reaching their teens and not being potty trained/bottle trained/walking...etc. ;D That usually helps me gain perspective.

My son is 16 months and have just started walking...I too was worried till then but i feel you need to give your child reassurance and always be around when he is walking until the child gain confidence and don't pay too much attention on small falls let them pacify themselves but be around and keep motivating them by clapping, patting etc.

My daughter will be 16 months on the 27th, and I've put her in dresses. At first she got frustrated, and she took a "nose dive" into the floor, but now she's starting to walk more and more. I guess it's because she's frustrated with getting her legs caught in the material of the dress, while crawling. Hahaha! She used to only walk from the couch to coffee table (about 6 steps or so), but now she's starting to walk from her toybox to the couch (about 15 steps+). SO exciting! Also, she has to have at least one of her hands "occupied" with a toy or cookie or something. Otherwise, she'll crawl. She's getting there, and I'm sure your little one will too. ;) Enjoy!!

Hi Loris! My son (almost 16 months) too was hesitant to walk a month back. The trick that worked for us might sound funny but it did work for us. He too was taking few steps but wasn't confident. So my husband held his bib around his neck assuring him that he is holding him where as he was walking on his own ,and in a couple of days he was walking all by himself. It was fun for my son and for us parents aswell ! :-)

my son was taking the few steps, and standing by himself for the past couple months, and then this weekend he started walking like 6-10ft...but he still reverts to the crawling most of the time. I think its a confidence issue cause obviously he can do it..so give it some time...she will when she is ready

My son was the same and he was happy with just crawling. I started to get worried when his first birthday came and went. Finally at 13 1/2 months he started to venture further and further. Next thing I knew he was walking every where! It all depends on your child some venture sooner then others. Just show support and make a big deal when she does take a few steps. Besides its true what they say enjoy them when they're not walking cause when they do your in for a whole lot of other baby Shenanigans!

@Kristal Kelley
I don't know where you saw that study, but it seems true. My daughter was walking at 10 months old, but still points at everything. She can say words, usually repeating ones that I say, but she doesn't use words as her main communication yet, however, we know a little girl who is 2 days younger than my daughter. She was a late walker and her vocab is amazing! Maybe there is some truth to that.

My daughter is also 16 months and isn't walking yet. She just started doing the combat crawl 2 weeks ago. I wouldn't rush it. When she is ready she will walk on her own.

my daughter just started walking at 15 mos. Kids vary in age, and some say that a later walker will have better verbal skills than an early walker. I don't know how true that is for everyone, but my girlie is quite the talker and still getting the hang of walking. I think as long as she's making progress you have nothing to worry about. One day she'll just take off and you'll be surprised!!

Don't worry my older two walked at 15 and 17 months old, they did it on their own when they were ready, she will do it when she feels ready to, I know its frustrating but be patient :)

It's ok cause I thought the same thing. My son is 15 months a week from being 16 months and he still is not walking. He walk by me holding his had and what I think is that they need to feel confident in there self to walk because they think they are going to fall but once they have their balance then they are all set because after awhile of me and my sons father standing across from each other and having him walk between us slowly he is getting the hang of it that sometime he does not realize that he has let go of what ever he is holding on and starts laughing because he mad it to the sofa right next to him. So all it is is practicing with them day by day and next thing you know they will be running all over the place!!! =)

you could try stand and sit toy like a fisher price pony or lion. or they have baby strllers they can push too. maybe getting her around other kids her age that walk might help too. my daughter didnt start walking until 13 months. it took her a month wayching others how to do it and using a stand sit toys really helped her too learn she can do it on her own.

My son just really started walking more before he was doing the same thing. He still prefers crawling however unless we are outside in the yard because he doesnt like the feel of sticks or rocks on his knees. What i did was held his hands while he walked and let him lead the way. Then once he was pulling me all over the yard and really standing for a while by himself without holding onto anything i took a few steps back from him and had him walk to me. Also now when he goes outside if he sits down or falls when walking i put him back up to a stand or help him stand and have him walk. It takes working with some kids to get them to walk expecially if they are scared. Also unless she hurts herself when she falls while walking dont freak out just go whoopsie and stand her back up. Dont stress that she isnt walking yet because it just means she is focusing on something else instead. My son is a real probelm solver over some of the other kids his age.

My 15 month old daughter hasn't taken any steps unaided yet, and she wasn't even pulling herself up on furniture by herself until after 13 months. In the last couple weeks she's trying standing by herself without holding onto anything and is experimenting with walking on her knees. If your doctor isn't concerned I wouldn't be either. And 18 months isn't unusual for a child waiting to really get their groove on. I was told my numerous people, too, that if your child is a late walker that they may be focusing all their energy on something else. I know my daughter seems ahead in speech compared to her friends her age.

Loris my daughter has just begun walking unaided, but she has been 'cruising' for a couple of months. You could walk her round whilst holding her hands, once she's got her confidence up, you could try her with a toy which she can push along..... I think Hannah has been slower walking then her counterparts as she didnt have a baby walker - a toy she can sit in and mimic walking. But our little ones are all different - I'm sure your little one will get there sooner rather than later

Hi! My daughter is the same way! She will walk all over the living room, and then just stop, drop and crawl again. She will not walk outside unless I hold her hand. I am sure time will tell if there is an issue, but if your daughter is taking steps then she is on her way.. I know a lot of people that didn't start walking until 18 months. You still have awhile to go before worrying! :-)
