Hi I would go to your doctor and tell them how long your baby has been battling it my son who is now 4 months old has battled a chronic cough runny nose congestion coughing up phlegm in the end after much hassling and pushing they gave him a course of antibiotics he also suffered with what looked like conjunctivitis eyes always runny after a weeks course the difference was so noticeable he was a much happier baby he also suffers with reflux and is on reflux medication as well as reflux formula they said they didn't know why the medication worked but it did and to be able to feed him with out him having to struggle through each feed has been wonderful and he is much happier ...best of luck

My daughter has the same thing.. at her last appointment my dr. told me she had a condition called laryngomalacia where the muscle by her voice box wasn't as strong as normal and that will make her sounds like she always has a cold until it get stronger.

Our son is always congested too... (he's 4mnths) The dr told us its his reflux. He has to sleep with the humidifier on (at night & naps) We do the saline drops, then nose suction before each feed, so it doesn't affect him eating. It has gotten a little better since they put him on meds for reflux, but if we dont do the above everyday, he's 10xs worse.

Humidifier, it was the one thing that made a difference!

from about.com
Frequent coughing
A frequent cough may occur if refluxed stomach acid is aspirated, irritating the airways, or when the stomach acid irritates the throat.

Frequent sore throat
When stomach contents back up into the throat, it can cause irritation and a sore throat.

Respiratory problems (such as asthma, pneumonia, bronchitis, wheezing)
Several studies suggest a significant link between GERD and asthma. GERD can affect asthma when refluxed acid from the stomach is aspirated into the lungs, and can make breathing difficult and cause the infant to wheeze and cough. This refluxed acid can cause other types of irritation in the lungs, leading to increased odds of pneumonia and bronchitis.

My little girl is 3 1/2 months and has been congested for a month or so now and also spits up quite a bit. I have removed dairy from my diet (she is breastfed) and she's not as fussy, but that's the only results I've seen. Can someone explain how reflux causes cough and congestion because that would make more sense than me thinking she has the longest cold known to mankind!

My 4 month old has been on Zantac since about 2 months old.
There are things they can do.

Dr. told us that it cud be reflux n try to make her burp after every feed. n she can't do anything as the baby is very small and the cough is not in a very bad condition

It is possible she has a dairy allergy. It could also be reflux. What does your dr. say?
