Full bladder for anatomical scan?

For those of you who had your anatomical/ 18-22 week scan yet, did you have to have a full bladder for it? I didn't last time I was pregnant (twins born in Ireland), but it seems more common in the USA? I'll only be 18 weeks 5 days at my scan (next Tuesday!), so that might make a difference too.

they didn't tell me anything but i drank a bottle of water before i got there and it definitely was full... didn't make it any easier having my little girl curled up on it...

With my son, I don't remember having to drink a certain amount of water and not being able to pee till it was over. With this pregnancy, I was told to drink 16oz of water. I had to start an hour and a half before my appointment and have it finished a half hour before my appointment. I did, but then I immedietley had to pee!! I think my coffee was coming out with it.

I peed, then quickly chugged another 16oz of water and took my son to my bestfriend's house. When I got there, I had to pee again and there was no holding it. I did this all the way up to the ultrasound appointment. I drank water, peed, drank water and peed. I ended up having a full bladder as she pointed it out in the ultrasound.

So, if you end up doing what I went through, don't worry. Just keep drinking water and your bladder should be full or full enough.

They did not ask me to have a full bladder. I had my scan at 20 weeks and they saw just fine. Had to have a full bladder for the earlier scan at 7 weeks. Hope this helps.

They require a full bladder because it pushes the uterus foward, making it easier on the tech to see the baby, check your cervix and placenta. I had mine at 18weeks 4days :) It's hard to hold it when the tech is pushing down but it does help alot.

Yes I had to. I had to drink tons of water and then not pee, not so easy! Especially when she was pushing on my stomach so hard to get the baby to move so we could see if it was a boy or girl. It ended up being 2 bottles of water i had to drink at least 20 minutes before my appointment.

well ive been told for both my scans to have a full bladder and ill be 20 weeks 6 days so id say just incase go with a full bladder cause they normally send us back out to carry on drinking if bladders ot full enough. also it takes longer to find if bladders not as full =] x
