has anyone had there baby on losec???

Oh thank goodness other moms going through what I am. Our son is now two months old and has been on losec and S26 AR for almost three weeks. Up until last week the vomitting stopped and he seemed great. Now he's been vomiting once a day and today he's screaming when he burps. He's also not sleeping more than 10-20 mins at a time today. I thought the vomiting would stop once we had put him on everything. We're going to the dr on Tues for his vaccinations but I feel so scared to leave the house some days because he seems to get sick whenever we're out. Today I acutally had to tip him to get the vomit out because it came up but wasn't coming out.

hi, my son is on losec and has been for over a month it works for him but does not take it away still has his bad days! i have never seen him bring up any brown spots

hi Sarah. my 2 month old daughter is on the liquid losec and has been on it since wed. and has been vomiting but there is mucus in it and im thinking maybe thats a sign that shes getting better.. i am not to sure yet. thank you and lisa for this information. it seems to be really good advice for me to try out. :)

well i have stopped him on the losec since yest morning, and he seems to be ok! he did a hard poo and hasnt vomited since wed arvo just be4 i took him to the doctors. the doctors told me to stop the tablets for a while and see if that helps. thanks for all your advice.

Wow computer just killed a long post. Basically - we use liquid form Losec - no brown spots, great for the reflux. BUT expensive, needs to be made up at a compounding pharmacy and kept refrigerated. Side effects for my son have been infrequent poos, thicker than usual and full of air bubbles. My doc also mentioned diarrhoea but not nausea/vomiting. Figure out if Isaac has a bug or if it really is the Losec causing the problems at the moment. I also heard Zantac works about as well as Losec. We tried the Infant GAviscon sachets before the Losec and they were fiddly and didn't do much, but I know they've worked for others, think it depends how bad the reflux is too start with. Hope this helps.

Oh dear Sarah, sounds like a nightmare! My son has been on Losec for just over 2 months now. He has 'silent reflux', not that silent actually, where he throws up in his mouth and swallows back again and again, very uncomfortable, crying, unable to lie flat, waking every hour. Losec has helped us a lot, he's like a normal newborn breastfed baby when he's on it. We get the liquid form which has to be made up at a compounding pharmacy - it's quite expensive ($70 in Australia) and only lasts 1 month (it expires because it's made up in this liquid form - has to be kept refrigerated too). So yeah, he's great on it, but his poos are quite infrequent (every 3-4 days), thicker than usual and full of air bubbles. My doc says these are all listed under possible side effects, as is diarrhoea. Are you sure your son's symptoms are from the Losec or a bug that's going round? Maybe stop for a while, wait for symptoms to pass and try again - if the symptoms return then you'd know Losec was to blame? Anyway, discuss with doc. I heard Zantac works almost as well. I also tried the Gaviscon Infant sachets as my first resort, and found them a pain to make up and administer for negligible effect. But they have worked for a friend of mine. Think it depends how bad the reflux is too start with. Hope this helps.

well, isaac now since monday night has had the runs and been vomiting!! i went to the doctors today and he said it may be from the losec, a common reaction they can get is nausea, vomiting, diahoria.. so he has told me to stoip the losec for a bit to see if it helps him! man i just cant win... when he was on a half a dose it was working ok, and so the doctors told me to put him on a full dose for 1 week and see hoe that went and i had done that since last sat and monday night thats when it all started happening.

Sarah you could also try Gavisgon for the heartburn associated with reflux. It comes in infant sachets that you mix in with the bottle. Otherwise you can use normal Gavisgon liquid and give him 1ml as needed.

hi, lisa i have never heard of that! isaac will have the tablets what i do is i let them disolve onto a spoon and feed it to him that way! he deff has reflux as i have tried few formulas and he has really chucked alot on them so i have him on the s26 Anti Reflux formula and that helps alot except now the doctors have put him on the losec as the formula isnt strong enogh for him, and he was burping and was really scared to burp cos it was hurting him or something and the burps really stunk like acidy reflux and he would spew like watery acid like stuff up, the tablets has helped him, just wanting to know what other mum thought of it and wanted to know if they have come across the browns spots in there babys spew at anytime!

Hi Sarah, my daughter was on losec for about a month as it was thought that she had reflux but it turned out to be Rotavirus. She hated the losec and would scream everytime and try and spit it out. She had a liquid form though, not tablets.
