I nurse so not sure if it makes a difference but when little one has the hiccups I just nurse more and surprisingly it goes away. We never gave our first son water until he was about 9 months old and it was out of a cup and with his meals, he was still nursed as well.

Babies need nothing but breastmilk or formula for the first six months of their lives. Why do you want to give them water (out of curiosity)?

Too much water can kill?! Never heard of that! I give him a little bit more water in his bottle to make his stools less hard. And when it's very hot or when he cried a long time (colic) I give him a few sips of water to cool down.

I had asked my doctor the same thing... he said not to give her water until she is 6 months old... I asked him why and he said giving her to much water can actually kill her.. I never heard that and was very surprised.. but like the one person said.. if its a few sips to cure the hiccups, then why not? that's what I do once and awhile... we are moms I think we know whats best for our LO ;)

I read in what to expect the first year not to give your baby water unless they are four months old and only out of a cup. They are not supposed to have large amounts of water because you can dilute their blood stream. I would not do it personally.

On hot days (this week we had two days that were over 90 degrees) i put 1-2 tablespoons of water into a medicine bottle (the are small and use tablespoon measurements). And let her get a few sips after she has nursed. She has already nursed til she was full but was just plain hot. the cool water helped her cool down a little bit without filling her up.

i know they say not to give them water but when my LO has the hiccups which is often i give her a few sips of water and they are gone! i dont give him enough to become full just to relieve him of the hiccups as he has them for so long he gets frustrated!

They say not to give them anything but milk/formula. You can fill them up with water, so they think they are full, but they haven't gotten any nutrients. I wouldn't do it.
