no poop/infant constipation

well my baby is now 4 months she was constipated for 2 months and i tried subpositories, juices, and changeing her formula 3 times it turned out it was the formula so she is now on a way better formula that works great it is more expensive but it worked great for my baby its called alimentum in cans pre mixed its easier for them to digest

Just to explain, I give formula in every bottle, but I give the Alimentum in about every other bottle. I use the Similac "sensitive" formula in their other bottles.

i gave my lo 3 oz water and 3 oz juice and it worked for her when the smaller amounts didnt.... I do not think its an exact science lol

i agree with most the mums dont stop giving him his formula it is very common 4 infants to go 6or 7 days withowt pooing honestly its true so i suggest taking him to ur plunket nurse or midwife n asking them for advice if its really upseting you good luck n hope ur lo ok :)

If hes not uncomfortable or crying when he goes it might just be his normal timing. My babies have acid reflux and I hate to give babies meds so I tried everything I could and my cousin recommended this new formula from Similac called Alimentum. It was a miracle! The AR formula had them very constipated but the Alimentum loosened them up. So now we have happy babies. ! No more spit up and easy, daily poops ! I hope this helps. (We give them the Alimentum every other bottle since it is more expensive)

My doctor said to give water every day. Like a 4oz bottle and some times I will but 1/2 to 1oz of prune juice in that bottle and that does the trick. Some formulas will constipate them. It will take a good 24 hrs to come through them. So just be patcitent and it will happen.But I would try the water thing every day. That is good for them in the summer months any way.

my son has ony pooed once a week for the last 6ish weeks. he hasnt pooed more than 1ce in days in about 2-3 months. he will be 4 months nxt week.
your boy could just be going thru a growth spurt

Formula fed babys can go 3 days without pooping. If you were breastfeeding it's normal for them to go a week....You just kinda have to wait it out but if your baby doesn't go poop soon goto the doctor again

Im not too sure what the difference is between breast & formula fed babies, but my breastfed nearly 4 month son only goes poohs once a week, sometimes longer. He will be quite irratable for a couple of days before he goes and do alot of straining. My doctor said it is normal for breastfed babies to go 10 days without doing a pooh. I wouldnt be too worried if your son takes days and days to have a movement, but if his poohs are hard and small like marbles when he DOES go, he needs something to help soften things up :)

Sometimes something as simple as a bath will relax a baby enough to make a bowel movement if you havent tried that already ;)

I have a four moth old son. His pediatrician over here says, its okay for an infant to poop once every five days. It is normal. Hope this helps. :)

Glad everything came out okay. lol but if it happens again. Mix his bottle wit pedialite instead of water. Trust me it helps sooooo much!

My 16 week old Kaden has also had problems, I tried brown sugar I tried plain water, I tried Coloxyl oral drops. None worked in he end I have changed his formula to Novalac It for constipation, it is cows milk formula but it is skimmed so that it is not so heavy for him. in the month that he has been on it he has pooped every day with no problems. Since the original post was June 8 and it's now June 16, I can safely say that everything came out fine in the end. I never thought I would be so pleased to change a poopy diaper. I ended up giving him apple/prune juice mixed half with water in a four ounce bottle. To ensure he remains regular I have been mixing his rice cereal with apple/prune juice for breakfast every morning. He has his normal formula bottles through the day. For dinner (with urging from his pediatrician) he has baby food vegetables mixed with rice cereal. Before bed he has an eight ounce formula bottle with two scoops of rice cereal. This diet has helped with the pooping issue, as well as starting to eat baby food with a spoon, and sleeping six hours straight at night.

my son has been on brown sugar pretty much since he was born, he has half a tea spoon in each bottle every day until he has come good, but im afraid he will be one of these babies that will always have problems but i have put him on farex and putting jar fruit in it to help loosen him up but i had to wait til he was at least 3.5 weeks old, good luck its horrilble seeing them in pain and struggling with it, let me know how you go

My baby girl was the same.. the doc said if i was really conserned to put a quarter teaspoon of sugar in warm water it's a natural lacitive so i'm told. I did and within 4-6hrs poop came. It can also happen if not having enough liquid to pass it through. could try warm water. hope it helps =)

If you can tell he is trying too go. make an 8 ounce bottle like u normally would bbut instead of making it with water make it with pedialite. He should go within the day. I have alot of experience in this area. If you need anything message me. I will help with all I can.

My 4 month old usually goes every 3-4 days. His doctor says that some babies just dont go every day. Gerber has puree prunes, which i find works very well with my son.

You shouldn't stop the formula at all. You could use a well lubricated thermometer to get this moving. You could massage his stomach and move his legs in a bicycle type motion. It is quite normal to go a few days in between. Your little one is constipated if he is straining to go and the poops are pellet like.

Are you sure he's constipated? Is he trying to poop? It's not uncommon for infants to go 4-5 days between movements. It's like they're saving it up for one big day, and you're changing 3-4 poopy diapers back-to-back!

When my son was constipated, I used Fleet Baby enemas, but he was almost 2 when the problems started. If you've already given prune juice, all you can do now is wait. You don't want to give him too much, or he can get the runs. I hope this helps.
