i have a 2 year girl who has a very small appetite and a 5 year old boy who is the complete opposite ! i understand most kids go through a `fussy' stage but shes not partcularly fussy she just dosent eat a lotif that makes sense. its so frustarting as i know she will get hungry in the night. ive tried giving her lter dinners , giving her earlier dinners so she has time to have a `top up' before bed but without much success, its not what im giving her thts the issue it literally is the fact that she just dosent like to eat. she loves her fruit though but any ideas would be much appreciate cheers guys , anything that can help me put my girl to bed with a dinner in her tummy !

louise it sounds like we do have the same daughter ! we do eat at the dinner table always, my daughter too does not like pasta or spaghetti but likes rice, she tends to try most things so im lucky in that way it is literallly im concerned with how little she will eat and i refuse to send her to bed without anything and i know some will argue that wont help etc etc but do i do what im doing and get tough when shes a bit older or do i crack down on it now , thing is like you said shes not not bothered if she eats or not anywya and if i send her up with nothing to eat it wouldnt bother her in the slightest. its just so hard as if she was just fussy maybe it would easier in a way, ive evn tried putting it all on the table she chooses herself i thought that maybe she was overwhelmed with the portion sizes i was giving her but that didnt work. soooo frustrating !

My daughter was exactly the same. She really was not bothered if she ate a meal or not as long as she had fruit. I used to top my daughter up with bananas before bed or malt loaf which is full of fruit and then a pot of mango rice pudding. Now she is 3.5 and she still prefers fruit to meals but I always encourage her to eat a bit of everything before I remove it. Eating together as a family has helped no end, she likes to pinch things off my plate and try them rather than have them on hers, I suppose this takes away the pressures of eat your dinner up then. I am quite lucky I suppose she likes meat and vegetables as well as the usual kid foods, but she will not eat rice or pasta as she does not like the texture.

In the cold weather I would give her Ready Brek with raisins in just before bed.
