Teething and Ear infections?

I took my 16 month old daughter to the dr yesterday as she had a fever over the weekend and just hasnt been herself lately.. Found out she has a double ear infection :( This is her 2nd and 3rd now, she seems to get colds and ear infections before more teeth come in, I think teeth #15 and 16 are on their way in.. and she seems to have really bad environmental allergies.. Just wondering if this is happening to anyone else's little ones and what you are doing about it.. My daughter is on antibiotics to treat the infections she has, but wondered if anyone has ideas of preventing them?

hi Tammy, my 15 month old boy had the same problem, until now we gave him ear drops to dissolve the wax, but now as I understand it is sort of an infection, maybe viral in nature. the ped says a big no-no to ear drops, he says ear drops do nothing to help but might accentuate the process of accumulating pass. He prescribes a nasal drop, a basic saline water drop plus some sort of anti-allergic syrup to cater to the ear pain. And he suggests I keep some Ibuprofen-paracetamol syrup at hand for mid night emergencies.

I had ear infections constantly when I was a child, thankfully my dd (16mo) hasn't had one yet. Unfortunately there's not a lot you can do to prevent them, just little things like keeping her ears dry & not letting her drink when laying flat. Apparenly ibuprofen can make ear infections worse, so stick to paracetamol. On the up-side, they aren't contageous :)
You could try going to a naturopath, sounds like that would be really beneficial since she has environmental allergies too. Good luck.

It is completely normal. When my daughter was cutting most of her teeth she had a ear infection for i swear like 6 months. None of the antibiotics helped her. They just gave her a really bad diaper rash. so when i finally just let her body fight the infection i found that it worked alot faster and hasnt came back yet. Of course i gave her pain reliever for the pain but nothing else. She is about 16 months now and has all of her teeth but 2, so its almost over.

Hi Tammy, I took my 16 month old daughter to the DR this morning to discover she had a middle ear infection, she has never had one before but it is horrible, she has been in a terrible way the last few days. Mia also has bad allergies so do her father and I. Its not nice seeing them in pain or sick but sometimes I guess theres not much you can do apart from nurse them back to health. Goodluck, I hope your little Princess gets well soon.
