I keep reading about bigger babies and wonder if I'm alone with a smaller baby. Payton's a happy, healthy 15.5 lbs at 8 months old. I try not to get worried about her weight but it's hard when everyone I speak with or read about has a baby that is 19-23 lbs at the same age or younger. She's not a big eater. 4 bottles a day (3 breast milk and 1 formula) 4-5.5 oz, Cereal twice a day 4 tbsp, Vegi's twice a day 4 tbsp and fruit once a day 4 tbsp. My doctor says she's doing great...but it's so hard no to worry.

My daughter is a "lightweight" too. she is 8 months and just over 15 pounds and 26 inches tall. She can still wear 3-6 month clothes. At 3 yrs my son only weighed 25 pounds. He is 15 now and approaching 6ft.

My baby girl was a big baby. She weighed 9 lbs 9 oz at birth and at 8 months old is about 17 lbs 9 oz and everyone who sees her comments how tiny she is. They are all so different and grow differently as well.

Wow my daughter is only 14lbs and 8 oz and she's 8 months old. She is seeing the doctor this week because she lost some weight due to my breast milk supply going down and weaning. She was 15 lbs and 2 oz.

Don't worry! If she's happy and the doctor says she is doing well then everything is fine. A baby is not slow at letting us know when something isn't right. And it sounds like you are doing things right. Don't compare your baby's weight to the weight of other babies!! They are all different!! Hope this is helpful.

I dont have a small baby, but i do know where your coming from worring wise. My son is 8 months but ill be turning 9 months on the 22nd of this month and he weights 27 pounds give or take a couple. And after i first had him his doctor said he was doing great. But then he went through about a month or so where he was always hungry so he gained a little more weight. Well needless to say the past couple of times we have gone to his doctor she has been talking to us about him being a little over his weight limit for his age. She sent us to a GI place and there they said he looked good and healthy. But to be on the safe side they wanted to have some blood test done. And now we have to go back there so they can do a follow up appointment to see how his is weight wise. And through all this i have been worried.

My daughter is going to be 9months in a couple of weeks. She is almost 20lbs. She is long and not chunky or anything, she is just tall. I wouldn't worry about her weight or wether she is eating enough or not. I think babies go to growing spells and some are just small. Small doesn't mean anything. I have a 4yr old niece who has always been small, small in height and weight, she just stopped wearing 2-3 yr old clothes. I have the feeling she is going to be petite and there is nothing wrong with that, My niece has a 3yr old brother who is now taller than her. My sister in law would worry but the doc says she is fine, she is just small. She doesn't eat a lot but then what is expected from someone small? There is so much they can eat. Some have small stomachs and are not able to eat a lot. Just so you know, my daughter eats less than your baby :). Sounds like is not what she eats or not enough, it is simply the way she is, and there is nothing wrong with that :)

My daughter is small for her age. She is 8 months old and weighs 14lbs 14oz. She can be a big eater when she wants to be, but the doctor told me to start giving her rice cereal in a bottle. At birth she was tiny and was 5 weeks early. I was told that doesn't have to do anything with her weight though. She will grow in time, just need to be patient. i got a friend who has a 2 month old baby and her son weighs already 12lbs. Its amazing how every baby is so different.

my daughter is 8 1/2 months old, nxt week she will be 9 months and she weighs 16.7 pounds.. shes on the small side too..but if you look at her pics shes a lil chunk..her body is pretty solid! and my daughter is a very good eater! so i was a lil worried at first cause when i use to live in sc where she was born they use to say she was a lil under weight but she only weighed 5.14 pounds at birth so and i was small as a baby too so thats where she must get it from..but im not worried anymore..like i sed shes a gud eater very active and mobile..and last time i took her too the doctors when i moved back to ny they sed she was fine and healthy..so i wouldnt worry about it..your lil girl is just fine!

My little girl is about the same size as yours and eats well but is just small. She is just not going a big baby. Other than her size she is smart as a whip. I don't worry, I use to but now I don't. She is still wearing some 3 month sleepers and mostly clothes for a 6 month old and she is going to be 8and a half months old soon.

Some babies are big, some are small.....Try not
get caught up in the weight and try to focus on the overall rate of growth. If Peyton is growing at a constant rate, that's all that is really important and that is what all pediatricians look for.

My baby is 8 months and only about 16 pounds people frequently think she is only 4 or 5 months old. She is adopted so we were first worried that due to a low birth weight from a difficult pregnancy, however she has gained consistently. While she is only in the 35th percentile the doctor says she is doing great. I work in early childhood and can reassure you that each child is unique and develops at different rates. While its very hard try not to compare babies!

have twins and they are a pound apart! Peyton was barely over 14 lbs at 7 months and Shannon was closer to 16. All babies are different - even twins! Don't worry, she is fine. If you have any concerns talk to the pediatrician to make sure she is geting enough nutrition. Best of luck to you!

don't worry about it. My daughter is only 16lbs 11oz last week at the doctor and she is 8 1/2 months now. And she about 26 inches tall. So she's quite thin. And she eats what I think is a decent amount. 4 Stage 2 jars of food and then 5 bottles at 5-6 oz each time. Sometimes a little less. So she eats more than your baby does and is still around the same size. So if the doc says shes fine and is happy and healty\hy then I wouldn't worry at all. She's just gonna be a petite thing :)

My daughter was pretty close to your kido when she was weighed for her last visit. They said it was an average weight. As long as your baby is healthy, giving you enough soiled diapers, etc, then you should be fine. Some babies just grow faster than others. My daughters cousin is twice her size. My husband also grew very fast as a baby, but he is just an average size man now. It tends to peak, and I think different babies have different periods of growth spurts.

seriously, do not worry..my little girl is 8 months old and she weighs 16lbs 10ozs..she eats 3 meals per day and 4 7oz bottles..the doc says she is doin great, a little underweight for her age but absolutely nothing to worry about..every baby is different so dont worry ;-))

[deleted account]

I'd say that measuring out what she eats isn't helping any. Just dump some stuff in a bowl and feed her. When you ration out food it's not going to help them to want to eat more. Just like if you only give a certain amount in a bottle, that's all they'll have. Make an 8 oz bottle, if they only want 6 then fine, but offer 8. It sounds like you're portioning food as a diet plan or something. My 8 1/2 month old nurses on demand. Has a jar of 2nd foods fruit/cereal for breakfast, a jar of fruit mixed with cereal for lunch and a jar of veggies and a jar of meat mixed with cereal for supper. She's not overweight, but she's not small either.

I have three kids, and believe me: I know how it feels to worry your kids aren't "normal," or even "average." But something I've learned is that, with rare exceptions, most kids will seem "behind" in some areas and "advanced" in others. My oldest didn't potty train til he was almost three, and is just now (at 3.5) staying dry all day, but he was speaking full sentences before 2 years. The next didn't say a word besides, "MORE!!!" (which he screamed at mealtimes) until he was two, and now (one month later) is just about caught up to his peers. He walked at 9 months, though, and is the same weight as his older brother! My 8 month old has yet to laugh out loud (she wrinkles up her nose and shrieks, instead) or babble (besides "Ay-yayayaya,") but is already cruising and wearing 12-18 month clothes.

The most important thing is to keep an eye on things, but not worry. As long as her growth is steady, she's fine. Now, if she were to remain 15 lbs for several months, or begin to lose weight, then you should seek a second opinion. But preciously petite is perfect for her; be proud! To ease your fears, look for the things that make her unique and treasure them. Her smile, her wave, the way she sleeps...she'll be little only for a moment. Don't waste it on worry.

My son (who is 8mths now) isn't even on the chart with his weight. He's a small baby weight wise but pretty average in height. My daughter (who is 2 now and about the same size as all the other kids her age) was also always on the smaller side. She's never been above the 25th percentile for weight. But at the end of the day all kids end up about the same size! As long as your little one is healthy and the doctor agrees that is all that matters!

My little girl is 8 1/2 months old and weighs 18lbs 8 3/4 oz. She still nurses but not as often as she used to. She eats oatmeal for breakfast and eats whatever we have for supper. She was born 5 weeks early and weighed 5lbs 6oz. As long as your daughter is happy and not screaming that she's starving I wouldn't worry. I know it's easier said than done. Enjoy your baby.

Yay! to small babies, I always worried that my LO was too small for his age, he's 37 weeks and last week he weighed 16 lbs and 7.3 oz. My doctor says as long as they are gaining weight and height nothing there is nothing to worry about. He is on his own curve and doing fine. He eats 3 meals a day and drinks 4 bottles (approx. 6 oz) of formula. Some days he doesn't feel like eating and I don't force him.

I am right there with you. My daughter is small in every sense of the word. She's a couple days shy of 8 months and is just now 14# and she's maybe 26-27 inches long (they haven't measured her since 6 months). She eats constantly: 3 4oz jars of baby food, cereal twice a day, plus she nurses every 3 hours and snacks on finger foods. The doc said to try feeding her more while he checks some stuff out but odds are it's genetics since she's developing ahead of schedule in just about every other way. Ahh, who knows. But I wouldn't stress about it too much. All kids are different.

i wouldnt worry at all. they are all different! My 8 month old is 17 pounds, and i have an 18 month old who is only 23 pounds. they are both some of the happiest kids you will meet, all of their doctors and health nurses and everyone are happy with their progress. It all just depends on the baby. Mine are just little, and by the sounds of it yours is too!!! I have a friend whose baby was wearing newborn clothes when she was 7 months old. she just didnt grow much early on,, she is 18 months old now and is fairly average in size. I also have another friend whose baby was born massively premature (at 31 weeks if i remember right). i think she weighed about 2 pounds. she is now 11 months old and is the same size as her 3 year old sister. they all just grow at their own pace.

oh and as for the percentile charts, my daughter is considered chubby for her height!!!!!!!!

i wouldnt worry about your daughter, if she is happy and your doctor is happy with things, then there is no cause to worry.

Says he is just petite, But trust me I get worried to about how small he is for 8 Months. I took him to a baby show yesterday and the babys in his age group was 6-12 month and even the 6 month old was bigger than him. But We are Not alone so I guess our babys are doing Great!

Hi Lisa
Hannah was 6lb 3 .5oz when she was born, but she went down to 5lb 11 by the time we left.... she is almost 8 and a half months old and has gained weight steadily. She has a good appetite and tipped the scales at 17.5lbs at her last weigh in.
I laugh when I look at the serving suggestions on some baby foods - they advise babies 6 months and over have 9 + spoonfuls, where Hannah usually manages 6 !!
Her little toyboy of a boyfriend, on the other hand is a bull by comparison (;o)

[deleted account]

My lil girl was weighed at 8months and she was only 16lb13! She has between 2 and 3 bottles a day (thats not including milk she has with breakfast) and 3 proper meals a day (shes like her brother and loves her food!) when she was measured she was 69cm!
Her brother at 4 months weighed practically what Skye weighs now so I was a bit thrown but my Health Visitor is happy with her and shes following the 50th centile for weight and 75th for height so I know not to worry. If there was something wrong my H.V would have said :) xx

My LO is 7 1/2 months just weightd at 181/2lb... all babies are different... just do not forget to take in consider height... My child is classified as a Leaner baby because of his HT...
--- the percentiles (if your dr gives you thes) can tell you where your baby stand on average to other babies born - example... a child in the 99% means they are heavy - 50% is about average(popular wt) and 2% would be thin (very at that).... as for height same rules 99% tall baby and should be a basketball player :) ..J/K 50% average (popular ht) and 2% short --- dr's look at these figures to check the growth rate and health of a baby - - If your LO is at 50% for weight and in a month or two is at 2% on weight - something might be wrong, it shows a drastic wt loss --- oh and these figures are based on a babies ht as well Racheals baby is a good example with ht and wt... My son is 18 1/2 lb (58th%) but he's 27 1/2 in tall (72nd%) -- hope this helps and isn't too confusing

My daughter is tiny and still refuses baby food or even cereal but will eat baby yogurt and other food that is for older babies. she is only 15.5lbs at almost 8 and a half months old and only 24.5inches tall she is just petite. i wouldnt worry about how big your baby is as long as she is eating properly and growing on her own curve i wouldnt worry. im not worried that my daughter cant stand baby food and every time it is put in her mouth she spits up everything in her stomach. i just dont give it to her. after trying every kind they make we just decided to skip it. I have a 3 1/2 year old and he never really did baby food either. dont worry as long as she is growing.

Lisa don't worry. I dont have a small baby, but I do know that ALL babies are different. As long as she IS healthy and happy, and IS putting on weight then don't worry. I would be concerned if she was losing weight and not growing. Was she born early? Was she a small birth weight? My Nephew who is 15 months has only just reached the same weight as my boy who is 8 months old, and my boy is not big hes the average weight.
