My daughter is 17 months and she has been messing with one of her ears (only the right) for a few days. Walking around with her head tilted to the side. The other day when I got home she said "ear hurt, ear hurt" while patting it and putting it up to my mouth for what we call a magic kiss. She has been cutting a set of molars for sometime now and they both broke through a couple weeks ago but of course aren't all the way out yet. She has had no fever. Which, is what gets me. She has had a couple ear infections before but had a fever both times. Everytime she teeths she always gets phantom pains up in her ears. She pulls and etc. But normally after the teeth break through she's fine (did with the other set of molars also), but she never acted like her ears were bothering her when she was teething badly a couple weeks ago with these. She has also had a runny nose to. Would you get her in to see the dr tomorrow or do you think its just her teeth?

Yep I agree Leslie and Christina,
Mothers Instinct is fantastic, afterall you know your baby the best of all and your gut instinct is usually right. I have no qualms whatsoever taking my little one to the dr's - just to be on the safe side...especially with ear infections, if they're left / undetected, the ear drum can become damaged. Its always best to get things checked if you're not sure, a chat with your gp is a great reassurance in itself... soo glad your little one is sorted.

Well good, I'm glad you got in checked out. My daughter has only had one case of ear infection, and she never ran a fever with it, but I took her in anyway cuz I just knew she wasn't acting like her normal self. So you are right, always trust your instincts! :) Hope she's feeling better!

UPDATE: I waited a little longer to take her in because she cont to not get a fever or show any other signs complained of it hurting and then she woke up once every night. She has had a few ear infections since the beginning of the year and none of them had been likes this. She would be very fussy, fever, lack of appetite, extremely runny nose, etc. This time was very different her runny nose even stopped running for the most part! Ended up calling our dr office and the nurse was puzzled like us. We both kind of figured swimmers ear and decided it would be best to bring her in just to make sure. They were extremely clogged back towards the ear drum. The way her ears are shapped it causes that but they cleaned all that they could then had to do a special flush to get back farther. After they could finally see in them there was a slight redness on the left side and the right one was infected. Always trust your instinct as a mommy and remember that they dont always run a fever or have to have a constant runny nose!

I would take her in just to be safe.. especially since she keeps saying it hurts... it may be teething... but it may be an ear infection, and the only way it will clear up is with antibiotics. I'm usually not one to take my daughter to the doctor for every little thing, but ear infections you can never be sure until you get it looked at..

It's probably her teeth but having dealt with 8 ear infection already with my little one, I never take the chance. A small infection can turn into a big problem far too quickly. There's no harm in having the doctor take a quick look in her ears to be sure!
