For some reason I tried joining the 2012 community and somehow got bumped to 2011. Because I thought it was the 2012 community, I ended up posting here without looking at the year. Sorry if that reopened an old thread! Much love!

My daughter (Feb 29) rolled over from back to belly when she hit exactly 12 weeks. Belly to back is a bit more challenging for her. I have seen her do it once, but I can't say for sure if she REALLY is or not because she loves being on her tummy and won't stay on her back unless she's too tired to roll. No sitting up yet either, but she tries.

Also, she wants to crawl SO bad, but doesn't have the arm strength... anyone dealing with that now? She crawls using her legs and her face because she can't coordinate the arms yet, and gets frustrated to tears. We were at the pediatrician and she was on her belly on the table. She wanted to grab her dress that was just out of her reach so she tried crawling to it and couldn't. She then figured out, much to my surprise, that if she pulled the paper, she could make it come to her. Now she does it with the blanket during tummy time, so we had to move it to the carpet or she would have no incentive to crawl!

ETA: Just after I posted this I went to visit my DD at my mom's house at lunch. My mom said she was rolling over both ways like a madwoman.

my son rolled over on his 3rd month. and he really likes to repeat it.first, he was trying to get a comfortable position,he was lifting his butt instead of his head, and got annoyed..the next day he got the trick, that it should be heads up and he was smiling till he fell asleep on that position...it was nice to see my son's development. ;-)

Every baby different, i've found that out with my lot, my eldest was rolling at 2 half months and crawling at 5mths, two of my boys were rolling about 4mths and crawling around 7-8mths and my lastest little one who will be 5mths soon still hasn't rolled, but i' sure it won't be long. Then all the fun starts lol :) xx

My daughter rolled over for the first time at 3 months. She did it three times in a row, and didn't do it again for an entire month! Now she's rolling over both ways. She did exactly what your little one did and would roll onto her side and couldn't get any further, but overnight she started doing it like it was nothing!

I was just reading this post and thought I would respond. My son just turned 4 months today. At 4 weeks he turned from belly to back and just yesterday he started from back to belly. He's been practicing it all day and he seems to love the encouragement he gets when he does it. I'm totally shocked. My daughter didn't roll until 5 months from front to back, and didn't crawl until 7 months and walked around 12-13 months. I think my son might do things faster- weird how two children can be so different.

@ Mary, that's just too cute. I don't think that's something you should worry about if your baby doesn't roll over. My 3-year-old was not a 'crawler' & I think it's because we have hardwood flooring but he still walked 2-days after he tuned 12-months-old. My baby just turned 5-months-old today (Friday 7/30/11) & he rolls over from his tummy to is back & then he's able to turn over from his back to his tummy (too cute). He's also scooting around on his tummy while in his bed & on the floor (he tries so hard to crawl, lol). I know he'll be crawling in a matter of time. As for sitting up, he sits up with support (he still has a tendency to lean forward while sitting if not supported, lol). Every baby reaches developmental milestones in their own timing.

mine will be 4mths soon and isnt even close mind you if he's on his side he automatically goes to his back (that doenst count I know) but every baby is different my first didnt like tummy time, never crawled and took his first step on the day after his first bday (also born 5weeks early) I noticed no matter what I do did or have done, babies decide when they want to learn things and do them, as long as u give them the learning tools and show them how its really up to them. Now hes 2.5 and is at many levels of a 3 yr old +..

Baby Brayden started rolling over around June 22. He doesn't do it too often but he does. He also is getting up on his hands like he wants to start to crawl. My first child Ben was crawling by now so it really does depend on the child. Don't push too much. Just make sure you are giving them enough floor time and tummy time. Thats all we can do. Good luck!

My baby boy is 4-months, 1-week-old and he first rolled over at 3-months-old. He's done it a couple of times since then; it's really cute to watch. He's moving about very well while in his crib. When I lay him in his crib, I place him at the head. Within a given moment, he'll move towards the side of the crib & also, to the foot of the crib. As you well know, every baby develops at different rates (when they're ready). I enjoy watching my baby progress through his developmental milestones.Btw: he's sitting in his walker now & he's able to push himself backwards. I'm really amazed by his progressions at such a young age. ^_^

I know our pediatrician said that they normally roll back to front between 4 & 7 months (with variations). My little girl has been rolling over from front to back since she was born (seriously, had a photographer come to the hospital to take newborn pictures and we couldn't get any belly pics because she kept rolling over). Right now she is so close to rolling over to her belly from her back it's not even funny! She gets half way there and then looses interest :p I'm not too worried, her big sister didn't roll over till she was 6.5 months old and she turned out just fine ;)

My daughter was 3 weeks early also. She was rolling on to her tummy right around 4 months. Every time I put her on the floor she rolls over. She has only ever rolled back over onto her back once. It makes her terribly angry. Instead of rolling back over she turns herself in a circle on her stomach. She will not roll over in her bed which amazes me bc as soon as you put her on the floor she is on her tummy. She is sitting as well but not for long periods of time unsupported but we just tried for the first time yesterday. She also says mom, momma, and bababababa...no meaning to them yet tho...mom and momma mean I'm frustrated, I'm awake, I'm hungry...all the unhappy emotions...she only said baba for daddy and she didnt want a baba. Its so fun watching them grow. Also I believe they do things when they want to. My brother is one of the most brilliant people I have ever met and he didnt do anything but lay on the floor till after a year old. He didnt roll over, sit, crawl, he didnt even have teeth and was as happy as could be! I also dont know when babies are suppose to hit certain milestones bc my son did everything late bc he had hip surgery at 7 months old and couldnt do any of those things till after the surgery and got his cast removed.

that's a great question! My son is 5 months in a week and he can sit up by himself BUT has never even attempted to roll over, I was getting worried until he started to sit and I am feeding him rice cereal now, I think if my son still won't roll over in a month I will talk to his pediatrician.
