Gestational Diabetes?

Are any of you dealing with gestational diabetes? I had to take my glucose test early this time around, due to earlier swelling in my legs/ankles/feet than before & my pre-eclampsia scare around 38 weeks last time. I ended up being border-line GD enough to where I need to have it monitored. I have to do a blood sugar test 4 x a day for the rest of my pregnancy & have already been doing this since about 18 weeks, I am now 24 weeks. It really sucks poking your fingers & trying to get blood to come out 4 times a day! I have to have another ultrasound at 30 weeks to make sure the baby isn't getting too big already. :/ I am glad I get to have another u/s, but nervous at the same time! You don't realize how many things have hidden carbs in them, until you test your blood & find out.. even boring cereal has a ton. Have any of you had GD previously & had to monitor for diabetes even after the pregnancy? This is what I am afraid of.. I have a pretty good handle on what I can & cannot eat, but it gets hard some days. Quick meals it seems either have too many or not enough carbs! Any ideas for quick meals out there, ladies?? I have a picky husband that normally does the cooking & a 2 1/2 year old to boot! :) Any encouragement or tips are appreciated :)

i went to my first class about GD and had to get the glucose test, it's not as bad as i thought it would be i thought pricking your finger would hurt and my levels seem to be fine & all i've done is switched to a low gi sugar and gone to low fat milk so i think it will be easier to controll than i thought good luck to everyone who has is.

Well I guess I join that club. 3rd pregnancy first time with GD just found out today. I get to go take a class on Thursday, hopefully it can just be controlled with diet.

i had gestational diabetes with my last pregnancy. sugars showed up in my urine at 26 weeks. i had the 2 hr glucose test and failed, i then had a 3 hr one and failed it too. we tried to control it with diet and exercise, but my sugars continued to rise. i ended up having to take insulin 4 times a day and tested my blood like 8 times a day. it was alot to deal with... i ended up being induced at 38 weeks, and after 12 plus hours in labour ended in a c-section. the diabetes went away after i had my baby, and her sugars were fine. they thought she was gonna be a big baby and was only a little over 7 pounds. they have monitored me the past couple years and my sugars have been fine. with this pregnancy, i have been testing my blood since 16 weeks and everything has been good. i go in a few weeks for the glucose test. but they think it was a one time thing, thank goodness. i dont think i could handle all the testing and needles this time having a toddler. we will see!

I am sorry...I don't have ne advice for you but I really wish I did! I can't remember when most people go in for their GD test but I am extremely nervous for mine. I know a girl who had it with her second pregnancy and she told me how rough it was for her and now I am just freightened! I would assume that if you looked online you might should be able to find something! I will see if I can get ne advice from one of my friends...but Good Luck and I hope that all works out for you!
