i only notice my baby girl saying mama not dada which makes me happy since she is such a daddys girl!!! anyway she pokes at my eye when i ask her where's mama's eye and she does the baby sign for milk, so maybe thats why i dont notice her saying more words because i am teaching her more, all done, and up in sign so she would likely do the sign before saying it..not sure but i think its hard to tell when they are actually saying words or maybe i just dont realize it!

I think that's great!!! My 9-mon. says mama, baba(bottle) (usually), bye-bye, and just tonite in the bath was saying ahahahah(for the train whistle, it sounded very much like it). (His big brother is VERY into Thomas.)
And, baby talk DOES count, esp. if the child is associating it with different objects. If they "baby talk", and point to the cat/dog, and it's the same sounds, consistently, THAT'S their word for it. They will eventually learn the correct names/sounds. My oldest (3) for a loooonnnng time used to call almost everything "da-doo". He eventually just started using it for snacks, and has in the last 1.5 years dropped it altogether.

My baby's first word was "Car", then "go" and about a month now it's "mama", "dada" and "hi" the past few days. I was happy she finally called me as for months she called me Aye.

Our little guy is just starting to get out Mama and baba, although he sometimes likes to blend them lol. He was born on Feb 11th. And our 2.5 year old can say too many to count. His latest phrase was "be happy" and "hockey" Lol.

My son only says mama and Dada. Although he did say ka when I said kiss .I don't think 6 words is unusual at 9 months. My daughter had sentances at 12months.

Perfectly normal for them to have plenty of words by 8-9 mos. Each of mine started talking between 5-6 mos and now at 9 mos my baby has dad dad, mum mum, Yesh (yes), Dish (this), Eya (Ella), Aggaga (Agatha), Up, Hi, Bye, Mo (more - oh boy does she use that one a lot). She has tons of baby babble, but she clearly has lots of words. And that's exactly how our others were as well. By 1 they had multiword sentences, and tons of words.
But ultimately it doesn't mean anything in the long run. Some babes talk, walk, run etc sooner than others, but when they're applying for a job 20 years from now, no one will ever ask how old they were when they started speaking.

My baby is 8 months and she says 6 words. She says dada (of course), ot ohh, dog, duck, ball and bye bye. She says them plain as day. She started saying bye bye this weekend. She's been saying dada at about 6 1/2 months.

well i know a lot of people don't count "hi" but I do. the other 5 are 1baba 2dada 3daddy 4ma 5yeah. I use to work at a day care and to me it seems about normal. Maybe if you work you don't get the chance to hear your baby?

Not trying to be mean or start anything but I'm not convinced your telling the truth. I believe he or she might say mama and/or dada but at 8-9 months I dont believe your baby is saying 6 words. Unless your counting baby talk which doesn't count.
