Earlier is better, really. There are just too many people out there who went into labor early and then didn't had what they needed!
We had mine last weekend. All of my friends are military families, so they will be out of town for all the upcoming holidays, so it was either last weekend or the end of January, which cuts REALLY close to my Feb 5 due date...

for my first, my mother had a shower for me about 6 weeks before i was due. it was well before the holidays and winter weather and people were more able to attend. it was a great day! it isnt very customary to have a shower with other babies. but we plan to have an open house/meet the baby, after this baby is born. i feel each child is a blessing and worth celebrating. were not doing it to get gifts, just to introduce our child to family and friends. we plan to do this a couple weeks after we have been home and are settled.

I actually had mine after my son was born but we had kinda special circumstances. I kinda liked it that way though cuz then everyone can see the baby. Although that was during the summer after the cold season.

My mom and I planned to have it first Sunday in November just bc she is having Thanksgiving at her house this yr and December is a busy time for everyone. Since I am due Feb 1 and after my last dr appt I am measuring alittle bigger she might be born in January.

That is a good idea. I also know a few people who had their baby shower at either their church or someone in their families church...just as some where to hold it that was big enough to gather everyone. I don't know where exactly I would have mine even at! My soon to be ("step")MIL is the one wanting me to even have one and I am assuming that she will be the one getting it all together. She is really excited b/c I think this might be her only chance to become a grandma. So now my son has another grandma and she is going to be a grandma of 2 which she is really excited about! Showers are so much fun but make sure you don't play the game where everyone gets to cut a piece of yarn that they think would fit around your baby bump!!! It is NOT fun and SINGLE person at my shower cut yarn that could have gone 2, 3, and 4 times around me!!! That was kind of depressing. The closest person was my sister and It went just barely around me twice! =( Good Luck and have fun! It is a great time to get together and socialize with everyone and just have a great time...also make sure to register at a few different places. A friend of mine only registered at Babies R Us and I felt bad b/c at that time I just couldn't afford that!

When is your due date? January would probably be the best time for it. I having such a hard time deciding b/c December is Christmas and then January is right after christmas...some time in February I will be having a baby and then in March is my son and my birthdays! I am due the 14th and I am sticking to that day b/c it is the first day they told me and it has only ever changed b/c my first Ultrasound at 6 weeks they changed it b/c baby was a little small but I had just QUIT smoking when I found out I was pregnant then I had an Ultrasound at 10 weeks and she was a few days bigger then she should have been according to my original due date! SO I assume they have no idea and I am sticking with the original day. Every baby grows differently...I was 6 ft when I stopped growing (I had a back injury and now am slightly shorter) and so now my partner and I are the same height like 5' 10" and so she is very likely to be a big baby!! SO I am hoping to have my 'sprinkle' the first weekend of February.

Well my cousin said something to me about maybe having a baby shower either in December or January. but I also asked a woman at church about possibly throwing a baby shower and she is suppsed to get back to me about it after she talks to some of the other ladies at the church that is is my moms sunday school class.

I would have to agree with Nicole! BUT first time babies do have a tendency to be late!! If you want to have your shower 2 or 3 weeks before the baby is born go ahead and scedule it and just put in case you deliver that day then a new date!! Sounds like a good idea to me.
I am having a sprinkle as well. I was thinking of having it about having it probably 2 weeks before she is due. Granted she will be fullterm January 24th I'm just going to have a In Case I am having a baby or in the hospital that day this is the new day! lol! I am only having one b/c it will be the first grandchild/ great grandchild on her dad's side...his mom's and dad's.

My last shower was scheduled about 3 weeks before my due date & I had my daughter 10 days later, so it worked out pretty perfect! This time since it's a boy & we gave away most of the items we had before, we are still having another baby shower for our little boy. We are going to have it some time in early January, after the holidays :)

NOT within a 2 week period of your due date... we had mine scheduled for 8 days after my due date, and i ended up missing it because I was in labour!!
I'd say that a good time to have a baby shower would be either a month (or so) before your due date, or after the fact. Before is helpful in getting items that you'll need (obviously) before baby arrives, and after gives your family and friends a chance to get the things that are needed that you didn't have before baby arrived (and if you don't know the gender of baby, they can buy gender appropriate)
Since I missed my first shower, this time around we're going to have a 'sprinkle' after our little boy arrives (we have most of the items that one gets with a shower anyways, so its more just a socializing event!)
