High Risk Pregnancy at 38.

While I am not a first time mom, it feels like the first time. I had my first 2 boys when I was 19, and 21. My first son is now 19 and my second son would be 17 but he was killed in a car wreck 9 mos ago at the age of 16. I also have a 26 month old daughter. To hear the words "high risk pregnancy" scared me enough, not only for my child, but for myself! My question is , I have been on high blood pressure medicine for over a year now. I had borderline high blood pressure while I was pregnant with my daughter, but didn't have to take medication. Now that I am 38 and on medicien I worry that the medicine will harm my baby but I also worry that even with the medicine I will have a heart attack or stroke! Has anyone gone through this? I am so scared and confused.

Hi Bobbi! I recommend seeking out the support of a naturopath and a midwife. My midwife was very supportive and alleviated my concerns around "high risk" just because of my age (37). (Note: my midwife is also a Certified Nurse; harder to find and worth the look.) A naturopath will work with you to the cause of the high blood pressure and be able to discuss natural remedies, cleanses, and nutritional support to get your system and body ready for baby. Remember--Birth is natural; not a medical condition.
