Does anyone here use a high calorie formula for their older child? My daughter is 7 and she is both oral and gtube feed. Mostly oral. I am looking for a high calorie formula to help supplement what she doesn't eat. She doesn't do very well with gtube feeds and needs them at a low rate, thus why I want a high calorie so I don't have to put as much volume in her tube. Thanks for any info!

hi, my daughter is 8 with oral AND gtube feeds as well. She has MD. Do you mind if I ask what your daughter's issue is? Anyway, our daughter is 32 lbs and got her gtube while she was still 7. We noticed her appetite decrease and her nausea increase to the point that she was hungry but not able to eat. At that time she was on peptamin jr 1.5 overnight feeds @ 70ml/hr. We decided to stop peptamin figuring something just wasn't right and since then have noticed she takes more by mouth and has less nausea. Peptamin is definitely high calorie but we're not sure why it seems to disagree w/our daughter. Could be that it is too dense/strong for her or that she burps up the nasty taste (since it isn't made for oral intake). Anyway, just thought you might want that insight in case you experience the same. I'm kinda new to this and the gtube wasn't the fix all promised so...a bit disappointed with it all. THANKS!

Our doctor had us up the amount of formula to water ratio. Our son is on 3 scoops per 5 oz which brings the cals to 24.

You can always add more formula to up the caloric intake. Always consult with your doc or a gi. :)

My son likes the Boost Kid's Essentials 1.5 cal drinks. You can put them in the tube or take them orally. This seems to be the best tasting higher cal drink (at least to my son) and we've tried them all. I've only been able to find them online, not in the stores. His GI dr also has us using Duocal. It's a powder you add to food and drinks to help them gain weight. The dr. needs to tell you the correct amount to use, there are no dosage directions on the can. I also get that online.

When my son was younger, and was on a feeding pump, our dr had us mix his regular formula to a higher calorie. I don't remember how we mixed it anymore, but that helped him put on weight.

Have you tried Peptamen Jr 1.5? My friend's son is on this and is doing well... My daughter who just turned 1 is on Compleat...trying it out first. How long did it take your daughter to eat orally?
