I had asked a while ago if anyone had used the gCloth. I got two responses which where great but neither was able to compare to using regular cloth. So, I have decided to tell everyone of my opinion of gCloth. Yes, I finally bought some. They are fantastic! They do bunch up as my 2 responders had said, however I found that the gDiapers disposable inserts bunch up as well so this was not problem for me. As compared to regular cloth, I actually enjoy these better. I had found that the regular cloth covers tend to smell a bit because their is direct contact w/ the wet or soiled diaper to the cover. However, with the gDiaper cover since their is a snap in liner you can change it out if need be and it doesn't stink! It's also nice to have an "all in one" system. I can use the cloth inserts when I'm at home and the disposable inserts out in town... all w/o having to put harmful chemicals on my baby. Also, no folding or pining or snapies to deal with when you use the gCloth! So, in short I love them over the regular cloth system. Oh, I also love how the poop tends to just fling off into the toilet.

Don't mean to discourage you. If what you where doing works than just do that. As long as the diapers are not smelly and your LO's bum is rash free than you're doing great washing your cloth! I like disposable inserts too, I just think cloth saves a lot of money in the long run. Especially if you plan to re-use with other kids.

Ugh, too complicated and too much crap to buy! I washed them all 6 times before first use, but we live on the 2nd floor (tiny NYC area apartment) and our laundry, though private, is in the basement so it was enough of a hassle doing the prep without all the maintenance. It's not feasible to keep going back and forth for multiple stages. Forget this nonsense, I'm going back to disposable inserts.
:(

Catherine... Their are many washing ways of cloth. Haha. It is because every baby's urine and poop is diffrent and water is diferent. I cold rinse to get all the stuff off and so the hot water doesnt bake stains in. Then I hot wash with Charlie's soap. Some regular detergents have enzymes and can eat your babbies butt. I add baking soda, sun oxogyen cleaner (dont use oxiclean because of the enzyme thing) to sanitize and sometimes tea tree oil to sanitize (10 drops). Then I add an extra rinse with vinegar. If you are using fabric soften that may be why your diapers are not being absorbent. Fabric softer repels liquids thus minimizing absorbency. I then dry my covers and cloth on HOT to add extra sanitizing power. Lol. Also you need to wash your cloth about 5 times or more before using to break them in. Although, you've probably already used them that much. I line dry my liners too. i have been doing cloth for a year know but was so confused when I first started!

I just started using them and am a pretty big fan too. They do bunch up, but I haven't experienced nearly as much bunching as I do with the disposable liners. When I use the disposables, poop always gets on the liners. With the cloth, it rarely does. I do typically double the cloth liners for extra absorbency because the cover seems to get damp with just the one insert. My little chica may just be a heavy wetter though :)

How are you washing yours? I got so confused by all the washing and handling instructions when I researched cloth options. I've just been tossing them in the wash w/ all the stuff I usually put in her loads ('free' detergent and softener and oxyclean) as well as some vinegar to kill odors. I don't try the covers or liners, but I do the inserts and so far they have come out smelling fresh and clean. Is that right? Or do you use special soap?
