Cloth Diapers - Best Cleaning Methods

I have tried many different detergents and methods for cleaning cloth diapers. After replacing my old washing machine that was nowhere near being named a workhorse and a dryer that took 3 hours to dry a load (and the vent wasn't clogged)..I think I have finally found a way to clean my diapers without opening the dryer and being hit with a wave of stink.
I spritz dirty diapers with BioKleen Bacout (1:10 ratio of Bacout to water) before putting them in the bin, then when it comes to washing, I run a cold wash with Charlies Soap a few drops of tea tree oil and vinegar in the fabric softener dispenser...then a hot wash. So far so good! What works for you?

We use Fuzzi Bunz and they recommend Allens which is just so expensive with shipping. But now-a-days their are many frag. and oils free det, I just use BioKleen or Purex F&C of course on hot, extra rinse and line dry. SOmetimes I do a prewash with cold water but not always, I find I still get a slight ammonia smell.

We have well water but even right after we add salt to the softener, I still have tinting on the diapers and in one of my sinks. Fuzzi Bunz claims the sun will help brighten them and strangely enough, it does!!

Quoting Michele:

It's interesting though - when I go to my mom's house, I find that my diapers have the most horrid stink, even though I use the same detergent and routine (except for using the dryer instead of the line). The only thing I can figure is her washer just washes different. I usually have to put them through an extra hot cycle with no soap, and they still suds like crazy!

Just a thought...Could the water source have an effect on the smell (city vs well water or hard vs soft)?

Hi! I usually use All F&C on my diapers - cold wash, extra long hot wash, extra rinse, and line dry. I just bought a different eco detergent at Costco, and so far I haven't had any issues. It took me a while to get my wash routine perfected, so I've been afraid to mess with it! I'm really interested in trying soap nuts, but haven't ordered any yet. Does anyone have any experience?
