Any environmentally safe mix-at-home ideas to unclog my kitchen sink? I live in S. America and do not have green products available at my local stores.

Pour baking soda down your drain let sit and then pour vinegar down and rinse with hot water in 15 mins. You might have to do it a couple of times but it does unclog sinks and cleans pipes. To avoid a clog again do this a couple of times a month.

Just found this, fyi for future use...sorry I didn't come across this sooner, it's from real simple....

Q. Is there an environmentally friendly product that will unclog my bathroom sink?

A. Use a green drain cleaner with enzymes. Try Earth Friendly Products’ Earth Enzymes Drain Opener ($9, ecos.com). It is biodegradable, contains no chemicals that can crack or rust pipes, and uses natural enzymes to break down soap and other clog-inducing organic material. Make a solution of two quarts warm water and two cups of the powder. Pour the solution into the drain, let it work for 24 hours (or at least overnight), then rinse with hot water.

In the end, we resorted to good old fashioned elbow grease. My husband did the dirty work and we ended up with an explosion of rotted food grime, but in the end it was all worth it. Our sink is no longer clogged :) I had the idea that maybe hot black tea could work. Chinese restaurants always tell you to drink tea with meals since they are so greasy. The idea being that the tea will clean your body's pipes and you won't have any indigestion, etc. Next time we'll try it.

I've read that if you pour boiling water down your drain it will act the same as draino ??? never tried it, but worth a try maybe - if anyone can attest to this let me know.  I also read that this should be done every once in a while to prevent clogs....  Good luck!
