Please introduce yourself to the group how you can, do, or would like to integrate green living into your life.

I am a stay at home mom to 4 kids (2 boys, 2 girls) and 2 Labrador retrievers. I am passionate about improving the quality of life for my family and that of future generations. I have always been an avid recycler, but never paid much attention to the personal care/cleaning products I used other than making sure they were cruelty free until I stumbled across the Environmental Working Group's Skin Deep cosmetic safety database. I was aghast at the ingredients in some of the products I used and the loose labeling standards.

I have spent the better part of this year scouring the net and store shelves for safer, yet affordable products. I have had so much fun with this new hobby as I have learned how easy cloth diapering can be, that I love practically every Dr. Bronner's product, and can now feel good about not only what goes into my kids mouths, but what goes onto their skin and all the surfaces of our house that they touch, lick, roll on, or otherwise act like typical kids.

I look forward to getting to know everyone in this group and sharing our thoughts, concerns, and ideas.

Cheers!!!

Hi. I am a SAHM to a 7 month old. I am consciously trying to make an effort in only buying eco-friendly, fair trade, and/or organic products. I buy only non-toxic cleaners and laundry detergents. I use both cloth diapers and unbleached disposable diapers. I would have used only cloth for environmental reasons, but felt they were too bulky and affecting my son's developmental growth. I recycle and reuse.

I am thankful for finding this group.

Vinegar and hydrogen peroxide for cleaning scented with a little lavender essential oil! Shop for baby clothes at consignment/nearly new stores, BREASTFEED (seek out your local le leche league group). I always joke with my husband that our baby girl has cost us almost nothing except for love!

Hi! My name is Karen, and I live in the middle of the Midwest. I have a 7 month old and a 6 year old and as they grow, I've been educating myself on how to live our lives greener by our environment, and what we eat. I work a full time job, so we're always busy shuffling from one event or outing to another. I don't eat red meat or poultry, but my kids eat fish and poultry. I'm trying to eat more vegetarian and often more vegan.

We are also a culturally diverse family, even though we're in the Midwest. My husband is 100% Hispanic American, and I'm half Korean and half caucasian. So our kids have different exposure to ethnic foods, and really sensitive skin allergies.

I'd like to share and learn from other moms doing the same things with diet alterations, switching out products to greener options, and how it affects the entire family.

Thanks!

Hi, Everyone! I used to own a store called Lullaby Organics, which closed last month. I also blogged at Green Kids Guide. I wanted to spend more time with my kiddos but still make an impact on the green community by sharing resources and ideas, so I have since launched Healthy Home Magazine, a digital magazine filled with ideas and tips for creating a safe and healthy home (http://healthyhomemagazine.com).

When I'm not busy with getting the magazine launched, I am playing with my two kids, trying to make my own detergents, soaps, and other household products, finding great deals on organic foods and products and really trying to learn how to grow my organic garden. I'd love to connect and learn from everyone in this group. Thanks!

I am a stay at home mom and a homeschooler of two girls. I have tried several cleaning products on the market but there is one that I keep coming back to and that is Melaleuca. They have wonderful eco-safe products and thier laundry detergent is just fantastic! Not only do I use thier cleaning products they have a good selection of powdered drinks that are 0 calories. The Splash H2O Lemonade and the Splash H2O Rasberry drink is less expensive than Kool-Aid. This is our familys favorite drinks. If you would be interested in knowing more about the Melaleuca Products feel free to email me at ghansel@healthymom.biz or give me a call and I will be happy to help you learn more on how to keep your family safe from posionous toxics.

Until we meet again!

Hi, my name is Ravit and i'm a mom to 2 boys. My passion lies in my site, www.NaturesWizard.com, a site dedicated to educating moms on the health dangers of toxic chemicals in household, personal care and baby & children products. I include 100s of articles that are written by reliable sources and do my very own neutral-based product reviews on TRULY natural products... i tell you what i like and what i DONT like about the products...so i'm not one of those reviewers who gets a product for free and then brags ONLY about how amazing it is. Best part, is that other moms then share their experiences with the same product so you can learn about 100s of products (available in North America) from moms, just like you!

I am really just looking to help moms find great info so that you can all make your own informed decisions and never say "i wish i knew".

i would love for you to check out my site and tell me what you think :) ...and, even share your thoughts on the products you've tried and tested.

I'm Erica, mother of 9-year old Liam. I'm a big fan of solar power (used to work for Sungevity). I'm also an organic food and reuse fanatic (that makes it sound like I reuse food but no, haven't figured that out yet!). Responding to Erin's post about diaper wipes, I bough cloth wipes and and just laundered them. All you really need is water, the soap on the disposable wipes is unnecessary. If you can't find cloth wipes, you can just cut up an old flannel sheet into squares. Happy diapering!

I am a mother of 3, and the queen mother of my company, Trillium Organics (CEO sounds so goofy to me). My children are 17 , 11, and almost 2. I am a serial single mother and would not want it any other way. I have spent my entire parenting life working to keep the family going. I am blessed to have the vision to create Organic Skin care products that people beyond my mommy group ( my very first customers) have been loving and buying for 17 years now. Our USDA certified organic products help people enjoy radiant skin, and help others to restore radiance after cancer treatments, eczema, dry skin, and dermatitis.

Please check out my website www.trilliumorganics.com I make the kind of product that Green Mamas dream about for their famlies. I am a super hard core organic Mama. In our family, we either do it green or we do without. We feel like it is a fun game that we can make into a delightful and educational challenge. Ironically, we now sell our products into China, but have not purchased products made in China for many years.
I am blessed to be a pagan, organic single mother in a country that supports my right to choose my own destiny and does not stone me or burn me at the stake for living my dreams out loud. I feel so lucky

Hi everyone,

My name is Danelle. I am a SAHM blessed with 3 precious little boys (3 1/2, 22mths, & 4mths). My husband and I seem to be the black sheep in the family and often get weird looks because we buy organic as much as possible, we use cloth diapers on all of our boys, we raise our own chickens for eggs and meat and we have a huge garden. As much as possible we try to take care of ourselves before we run to the store for something.

I am currently in the process of starting a cloth diaper company. My goal is to offer affordable, easy, organic/natural & adorable cloth diaper products. Hopefully if everything goes as planned we will be opening our online store at the end of the summer. In the mean time I have over 30 custom orders that i have to get finished! I've started a blog for my company and would love all of you to check it out and subscribe. I will be posting lots of stuff on cloth diapering and will soon be unveiling the product details of each of the things we will be offering.

Looking forward to chatting with all of you ladies. And i any of you have blogs that you would like me to follow i would be happy to do so if you send me an email and subscribe to me blog. Thanks!

To find things to reuse I look for things or offer things on my local freecycle group.www.freecycle.org will help you find yours. I also am an independant associate with Viridian, which is a third party electric supplier. It is a greener choice, they use 20% renewable energy which is almost 3 times what most local utilites are using. Lucky for me as a single mother trying to save money in any way I can, they are also a cheaper option, It saved me about 15% off my electric bill this month, Its free to choose a 3rd party supplier and there is no contract,You still get your bill from your regular company, but you will be buying greener energy at a lower price! If you live in PA,MD,NJ, or CT you can sign up on my site www.viridian.com/greener

Well Hi, my name is Thelma and I live in Africa. We use solar panels for underfloor heating, warm water and lights. We can't use them yet for fridge and special equipment as we need special ones for that and we need to import it. Our drain is build in a system to create "gray" water for the garden. So all water goes into a commun basin and from there it goes into different rooms with filters and processes until it's clean to use for the garden. (All water except for the toilets) I have my own vegetable patch, fruit trees and herb garden from where I make my own ointments, tinctures, juices, bottled jam, atjars, you name it. Paper gets schredded and worked into the compos heaped. I have a small earthworm "farming" to create more better compos. Ya, well, here its still very basic and I love it every minute!

I was rasied in a GREEN home but I never really realized it was Green until recently. So I have incorporated my uprasing into my own home and in the last three month I have cut my household expenses by HALF. I realized that this was something that I needed to share with others so I created www.mexicanelegance.com, where I share GREEN ideas with others. In our garden we grow our own veggies and some friut.(Don't have to worry about recalls).

I truly feel that even though we were close in the past, my children and I are closer then ever. I've noticed that my children laugh more and want to share their new found knowledge with everyone they meet. I personaly feel more relaxed and have lost weight going green.

We are very passionate about sharing with others how they can reduce their carbon footprint!

Hi everybody! I'm a stay at home mom to two kiddos, three dogs and my hubby! I am a recycling freak and try to re-use everything at least once! I also hate wasting stuff! :) My dad was nick-named Captain Planet when I was growing up so I have inherited a lot of traits from him. Let's see...during 2009, I made three big Green Changes...first, I stopped buying paper towels and have started using old wash or hand cloths for kitchen clean ups and designated a "clean" dish towel for hand drying. There was a little resistance from the fam, but all is well now!

I also stopped buying bottled water as much. This used to be an everyday staple in my home but now is a once in awhile purchase when it is absolutely needed. Woo hoo!

Finally, I converted my home to non-toxic and safe products from Melaleuca. Great products, great prices and a great ending! :)

Happy Being Green!!

I'm a mom of a 2 year old little girl who works part time from home in certified organic personal care product sales and marketing. We are an animal, planet and organic loving family who aims for natural living. When I became pregnant a couple of years ago, I started really reading and researching a lot about what chemicals and carcinogens are in personal care products. This is from a "product lover"! I was shocked. Cosmetic Database really changed my life and made me aware that you have to educate yourself. No one is looking out for you! I look forward to sharing info with you other Green Moms and hope to become pregnant with baby #2 sometime soon.

Have a great day!

I have always recycled, but really got into living green and eating healthy about 3 years ago after I read The Maker's Diet. Amazing! I also have my 5 year old son who has bad excema and my youngest daughter might follow in his footsteps. We drink raw milk, which has helped A LOT! My son can only use one kind of bar soap (at $6 a bar, lol) and he uses the Maker's Diet hand soap.

We started using only baking soda and vinegar to clean. Amazing what a savings that is compared to buying all the "regular" cleaning supplies.

There are so many things we do around here, hard to name it all. I look forward to learning more through this site!

Hi - I'm mom to a 5 year old girl. We're passionate about sustainability, and work hard to tread as lightly as we can on the earth. To that end, we do as much reduce and reuse as we can - we're blessed with the best thrift store on earth in our neighbourhood. We choose not to own a car, and cycle, walk, or bus wherever we need to go. Sometimes, it's challenging, but we enjoy trying to find more ways to reduce our carbon footprint. We have a large organic vegetable garden, as well as pears and grapes, so we're able to eat well, and share with others, which we love.

My daughter was cloth diapered as an infant. We used reuseable wipes. Now that she's older, we work on green projects together, making it fun -- neighbourhood trash clean-ups, community gardening, etc.

I'm excited to be joining a community of green families! Living in an urban area, we find there's a lot of lip service paid to living green (often by the parents at school who leave their SUVs idling at the curb while they wait for their kids). I'm really interested in furthering our committment to local eating, and ways to reduce the chemicals in our day to day life. If anyone knows anything about canning and other food preservation methods - I'm all ears!

cheers :)

Hi,I am Melody. We have a blended family with 2 boys still at home. I am interested in trying to live greener. When you start looking at the state of the planet and overall health of people. Cancer rates ect. I gotta stop and wonder what this is gonna do for our children in the future. If I can teach my children a better way to live which is actually cheaper I feel they will be healthier, more resourceful, and appreciative adults for it. I live in the oil field area so we breathe enough chemicals that we could really do without any extras. New to all this though. Have a friend that makes all natural soap and bath products.I have been getting those from her and love them. then I was like hey wait a minute. Now I have found recipes online for making my own natural laundry soap, toothpaste, deodrant, dishwasher and dishwashing soap.Ways to make all my cleaners all natural. In the end they are better for the environment and WAY cheaper to make than to buy. Now if only I can stop going out to eat. But we do recycle and get our exercise by making a family walk out of picking up cans with gloves and a trash bag in our neighborhood . Unfortunately, most of our neighbors are not environmentally friendly or even know where a trash can is. Then we take the money we make and grow plants. Enough of my rambling I am looking foward to being part of the group.

Hi,
My name is Natasha, I'm a student and a stay at home mum to my son is almost 2 and his name is Zachary.
In the beginning I wasn't a green mummy, and then I over a course of a month when zach was about 1 started getting an odd curiosity of things I use daily, reading up on things I had heard. Now I pride myself on being as green as i can possibly be. :)

I'm Molly, a student and stay at home mom for Liam. We all have sensitive skin and allergies, so we lean towards natural products and ones with no chemicals. I love to cook and my husband and I make almost everything from scratch.

Hello all! I am a part time working mom of a 1 yr old boy. I have always been a recycler and have just recently stepped up my game on that. As well as I have just started to compost reducing the waste that goes into the trash. I reuse things and get second hand clothes from family, friends, garage sales, thrift stores, etc.. I try not to buy thins with packaging that is not recycle-able. Its hard when birthdays/holidays come around and others buy presents that have packaging that is not recycle-able. I haven't done the green-cleaning products yet because I want to use up what I have now, or I might give those away? I don't know I feel guilty for disposing of it because its chemical waste and then giving it away just defeats the purpose of helping the environment because i'm contributing to someone else's chemical hazard. Any ideas on what I can do? I want to buy green cleaning products but what do I do with the old stuff?

I also need to start buying food locally and organic. I just find the organic stuff to be too expensive for a single mom in this area.

Thanks !

Hi All... My name is Vanessa and since becoming a Mom, 11 years ago and again almost 6, I have tried really hard to make greener choices and teach my kids about using their voices to advocate for our planet. I started teaching a Roots and Shoots class for my son classroom and it has been an amazing experience. Roots and Shoots, if you are not familiar, is part of the Jane Goodall Foundation where children reach out to their communities and learn buy doing clean-ups, research and speaking to local representatives. SOOOO cool to see these kids learn and feel empowered!!

In addition to this I have an on-line and wholesale business of recycled cards, coloring books, notepads and more. My mother and I work together, she creates the designs and I sell, work on merchandising and greening the business. I LOVE promoting and offering a greener approach to paper lovers.. You can check us out at www.notepatch.com.

I look forward to learning from you and getting to know you all better!

Best Wishes...
