I know generally it's recommended the child be 1 yr old for dairy but I was wondering if anyone has introduced it earlier and had no problems with it. I thought I could get my question answered here if I could anywhere ;) Thank you!!

Our doctor told us that it was just fine so we started our daughter on yo baby yogurt when she was 6 months old and she loves it! She begs for more!

My daughter had whole milk yogurt at 9 months. That's how we introduced dairy. When we saw that she was okay with that, we began to give her small amounts of whole milk (2-4 oz at first). She's totally fine. In fact, that is what our pediatrician recommended.

Quoting Michelle:

I have heard of baby led weaning but haven't read up on completely. I know I like the concept of listening and watching your baby for cues. She's very interested in what is on our plates more than what I feed her. The yogurt thing just stopped me in
my tracks. My parents put all kinds of stuff in yogurt when I was a baby as a way to get me to eat stuff. Granted we know more now than we did but I came out fine and Gerber makes Yogurt Blends w/fruit for "Sitters" which is where I'm at now. Dunno if I can go to diced foods just yet, she gags/coughs on everything that's not pureed. When that lessens I'm planning to dice her food.

She's cutting her first tooth. I say that because I can feed her what feels like 2-3oz of pears or peas and 1/2 hr to an hr later she'll want to nurse. It doesn't seem to be a comfort thing for her because she's actually eating not just sucking. These feedings tend to be longer than they used to by 5-10min. Is she signaling me that she's needing more solids w/more substance like meat rather than just fruits & veggies?

my daughter is older *14 months* but after she eats within 30-45 minutes she's all about her boobie, my son was the same way. i'd personally not give yogurt at 6 months even though the protein is broken done in it my daughter still would get sick from me eating it while she was younger* but i have a child that can't handle anything with milk in it.. her brother gave her less then half a teaspoon of pudding *With permission we are to try here and there with milk products* and her whole mouth turned red . we do give her coconut milk yougurt and she drinks coconut milk since she was 12 months plus nurses on demand

Also have you thought of growth spurts? I forget when they happen cause I always just let my girl eat as often and how much she wanted. But I know she ate like every hour during those times!

I'm not sure. I did feeding a lil different than others. I just offered solids at every family meal time along with a cup of water starting at six mo. I still breastfed on demand. At the start my girl would just play with food and breastfeed soon after. Around 8mo she replaced bf with solids on her own for the three meals and then just bf in between and before bed. Then at a year I replaced the bf with snacks and added whole milk, no probs cause she was already used to cups. I just followed my girl's cues, like you said. She absolutely refused spoon feeding except for yogurt!

I know when she is teething, my girl won't eat as much and will simply drink more. That goes now too, even tho she is 18mo and hasn't bf for six mo. A trick I learned is to freeze the yogurt in a tube and then slice it like a banana. She loves it like a treat when she is cranky, and it numbs her gums enough that I normally can convince her to eat other things too. If you are okay with meds, I use baby oragel. I would rub it on when she wasn't eating, wait a few mins, and try again. Normally that helped if teething was the problem. But your girl is 6mo right? There is no problem for her to bf all she wants when she teeths and then eat when she is ready.

That's the idea behind baby led weaning, to let your baby pick how much and what they want to eat themselves. I simply offered a balanced meal and let my girl go! So if you want you can offer diced foods or whatever along with the yogurt and other foods you feed, that's what I would do. If she eats em on her own and doesn't gag, good. If she doesn't, good too, at least she has the choice to do it when she is ready. You can still feed her the spoon stuff if its not stressful for you guys, it was a screaming match for us! I just wanted a way where meals were a happy time, and not forced. Have fun!

Here's the deal, both yogurt and cheese have the milk proteins mostly removed during processing, so that's why it's okay to give those foods earlier than a year. It makes no difference whether the baby is breastfed or not. If your baby is doing well with solids its fine, do the recommended waiting period to check for allergies like regualar foods. My daughter never had baby foods we went straight to finger foods, google baby led weaning. So some of her favs were yogurt and cheese. My fav brand is yo baby. Its full fat (good for babies) and low sugar without extra ingredients (its also organic but I don't care). They make some mixed with cereal, and some with veggies now too. Good luck!

i did,its ok to give yogurt as long as he takes formula as it already contains cow milk, but if you breast feed i think its better to wait.
