Constipating Foods

My almost 9 month old daughter has been getting constipated. I still breastfeed, but she is getting two solid food meals a day (jar food and often mixed with baby oatmeal). I just learned that carrots can be constipating, which surprised me. In order to explore what works for her, it would be great to have a list of foods that can cause constipation in babies, and maybe those that help with regularity.

i used to give the kids the prunes. i think beech-nut had them.. then again my kids are 6 and 10 so gerber might have them now too. there is something thats called the BRAT diet. the doctor always told me to do this when they have watery BMs so stay away from these foods if constipated - Bananas Rices Apples Toats. So the cearel might be binding her up.

well i no that apples and bananas do as well..i would when my children had a hard time going offerd them prunes and if they wouldnt take it i hid it in somthing they liked...lol also when my babies were smaller i was told to offer them brown suger and water...2 ounces of boiling water to 1 tbs of brown suger i belive (i cant remember might want to double check that one) and then of course cool in refrigerator then ofer once cold and thats a natural laxitive and i found that it helped my children as well.

They now make those single serve prunes which come individually wrapped. Just one of those usually did the trick to ease constipation. My son, now 15 months, used to need a prune when he ate string cheese.

Prunes worked wonders for my girls. For my eldest I would boil them for a few minutes then blend them with a bit of water, for my youngest I just bought the organic prune puree and I would mix it with any fruit they were eating, applesauce, pears, peaches... They loved it!
We never did pinpoint what exactly caused the constipation with my daughters but I have heard of bananas being the cause.
Good luck!

some babies have a sluggish intestinal tract. ALso, breast milk doesn't make much poop as it's all assimilated. My first boy needed enema help at times. But what worked to unclog him was FIGS. boil in pot for a few minutes, then blend up in blender with little water, add some applesauce for taste.
I think every baby is different...my boy got clogged by bananas. You could be giving baby too much food? try just the oatmeal with a bit of breastmilk
